Greg Hardy Is Seeking A Contract Extension

With our cap the next two years how can we keep him? Better to get a draft pick than nothing

If we extend him his cap hit for 2014 can be very small. Even 2015 will be manageable. it won't be until 2016 that it will cost us a ton. Remember that with Flacco's 120 million deal, his cap hit this year is only 6 million which is as 3rd of his yearly average. So the idea that we couldn't afford him at least through 2015 is not true no matter what our cap looks like. Now it is true that he may or might not fit into our long term plans and it is true that someone may outbid us which is always the change we take. But I don't think trading him makes much when we don't have anyone else in the wings.

No we have scrubs at DT because we never put the talent on the damn field. We haven't drafted a 1st or 2nd round DT since 2002. We literally never singed a DT worth anything since Kemo and he was only good at taking up space.

We are weak at WR because again we never put talent at the position. No first round WR selections since what the late 90's? Haven't had a decent WR pick up since Muhammad returned at 50 yrs old.

I agree, but your solution to keeping Hardy is cutting Double Trouble/Gross/Beason. Where do you think we're going to get high enough picks to replace all of those people in the next couple years? How will we sign those players when Cam/Hardy/Johnson alone will account for 50+ million of a 120 million cap? You have to spread the money out, and that means not paying 2 DEs. Show me another successful team that has 2 high paid DEs? That method has expired, teams have found it's much easier to create a pass rush from a cheaper linebacker, and replace them every few years.

We should trade him during the season.

best thing to do, imo, since we have no money and don't need to be spending mega money like it would take to keep him and CJ.

hardy has a lot of value and very little cap space at the moment. very tradeable.

don't want to lose him, but we can't afford to keep him.

Yep. Right know as a result of the idiocy that is Marty Hurney these are the decisions we have to make. Just like in life where being stupid with a credit card can ruin your long term profitability. It's time for us to Suck for Bucks. I hate Marty more and more each day.

trading hardy isn't an attractive option, but it makes the most sense....unless you're marty hurny.

we can't afford to put that much money into one position, esp. when you are in cap hell for the next few years.

i don't think people advocating for keeping hardy realize what he and rosenhaus are going to be asking. hurney overpaid CJ by quite a lot and he also overpaid quite a few other players and not only screwed our cap up, but also made the team really out of balance.

you have to ask, do we want to make a bad situation worse or allow the cap to mend. the cap isn't going to get fixed by following the hurney method of cap management.

we either trade him or let him walk. we just can't afford to keep throwing money at singular positions like that...esp. with so limited space.

So you'll be fine with Cam being injured for next year as long as Hardy is back?

Hardy will be playing next season regardless of an extention. We dont have to cut Gross right away.

I love double trouble as much as anyone but all of us here know we can get the same balance in our offense with RB's from the later rounds of the draft. Beason's future is on the fence anyway.

Another thing to think about is that if we trade Hardy now, not only does our pass rush take a huge hit it also exacerbates the need of all our other positions on defense. All of the sudden DJ Campbell, Dockery, and Josh Thomas don't look so good.

We have question marks all over the secondary, Safety, #1 and #2 CB, potential problems at LB. With more time for the QB all of those problems will be exposed and we won't get probowl replacements over night. We will be commiting more picks to those positions. It will take more time to get that defense back in the top 10.

Depends on what he's asking for. If its ridiculous we can just laugh at him and tell him he needs to play well for more than one year before we just start handing out big contracts.

If it's reasonable, I say you give it to him, that way maybe you get him for a decent deal and he continues to play well.

If he thinks he's getting anywhere close to what Charles got he's lost his mind. Marty ain't here no more, and we arent gonna be stupid enough to pass out big contracts like skittles just because we drafted them.

Throw in the fact that DE is literally the only position in football that is simultaneously incredibly important but also relatively easy enough to find good players for, I'd say a 40 million dollar deal seems reasonable enough, when you consider all factors.

This provided we actualy start cutting dead weight, and, as this transition has proven, Richardson still refuses to do so.
