The Panther Advantage

Recommended Posts

We all know this is the slowest time of the year for NFL. Hockey just crown their Champion and barring a miracle the NBA will crown theirs sometime this week. The college world series is in full swing. NFL news stories are slim and none. So I read what I can from NFL.com and other sites I wonder into.

One thing got me thinking was what our advantage was going into 09. Reading Clevelands woos about their OL and DL. Hearing how this O-linemen is gonna fit here and this one is gonna fit there. It made me believe our advantage is our chemisty is already set. Our summer school is shaking off the rust, lubricating our machine and fine tuning it.

This is going to provide a huge dividend in the 1/2 of the season. While other teams are getting their chemisty just right. We are already cruising along. Barring injury our OLine is going to be well ahead of other teams. I would think this would equate to one or two extra wins before mid season.

Agreed?

chemistry is important but it wont make a difference. Not with this brutal schedule that we have. The only way we can get a couple of extra wins is if had a few cup cakes on our schedule this year. Unfortunately that wont be the case. We dont have any of them like we did last year.

You just won't get off the schedule thing will you? The strength of schedule is something ESPN and others hype to make people like you poo on losses and say I told you so, Or poo on a 12-4 season because it was an Easy schedule. The teams in the NFL are way to close in talent for anybody to have an easy or hard schedule. Even the Lions are a competitive team. So you can shove that SoS crap up your ass.

Seems to me that chemistry will be more important this year. There won't be any gimme games and every one may boil down to a few plays that go one way or the other.

I believe that this year the players may recognize that they underacheived last year. Hopefullly the slogans of unfinished business unfurl and knowing he is possibly gone after this year may give Peppers even more reason to go all out this year. Coaches particularly on the defensive side will be scrutinized and judged based on how we do this year.

Hopefully everyone recognizes that winning one for Big Cat needs to take on new urgency, and there is no time like the present.

Obviously there are lots of reasons that things won't work out and we won't go far. But it could be the perfect storm with all conditions for unprecedented results. The good news is that every thing will unfold in the next 90 days.

What??? Did you run out of troll pictures to post?:D

Strength of schedule is factor wether you want to accept it or not. It just is. This is the first time in 7 years that I am predicting a losing record for the panthers. This schedule is just too brutal and our schemes are way too predictable and way too conservative to be able to handle it. I hope like hell that I am wrong but I have to go with my gut feeling. Im not going to overlook these issues just because alll these insecure little homers like yourself want me to.

I NEVER put much stock into the schedule.

At least 4 teams will be worse this season, 4 will surprise us, and 4 will be what we thought they were.

Plus we get to the playoffs by winning the division. Everyone in our division has a "hard" schedule, so take care of what we need to do and the rest will take care of itself.

4 teams have a really tough schedule

4 teams have a really easy schedule

and 4 teams are just right.

Better living through chemistry. Eat acid.

yes, agree - chemistry is an advantage. it all goes back to all but one starter returning. that means chemistry. that means familiarity. that means experience. that means more time spent developing young talent and less time spent worrying about positions battles and who's going to fill this spot or that spot. it means consistency. and it doesn't take a genius to realize that consistency is a good thing when you went 12-4 the previous season.

also tired of hearing the strength of schedule crap. pittsburgh had the toughest schedule going into last season. i seem to remember them winning a few games last year. there's this one that was pretty impressive but i can't quite remember which game it was...oh yeah, the super bowl.

The steelers have the number one defense in the league, a top 10 QB, and a very good recieving core and running back tandem. Our defense and is no where close to where they are and our QB is an aging has been. We arent equipped to handle a schedule like this they way the steelers were. If the defense can make a huge turn around from the last 2 years then maybe I like our chances. But as long as Fox has control over it and continues to over rule everything Ron Meeks does the way he does with every coordinator then we can expect the same bend but dont break philsophy that we are used to.

    • Interesting that people are calling for our DC'S head, when we never would have been in the game if it wasn't for the defense.  Never should have gotten to OT.
    • Philly's defense is great and they run the ball a lot and control the TOP (and they certainly will vs us - this is a big mismatch), so even if Bryce is at his best, I doubt he would have a chance to crack 300 passing yards.  Be damn impressive if he does though, but it all just depends on volume, efficiency, and most importantly... not turning the ball over.
    • Even with Cam I don't think it would have been a hard sell. He always loomed larger than life, but most people that understand football understand the reality of the game. One wrong hit, one wrong step, and a career can be over. It's the thing I've been frustrated about most with every GM we've ever had, including Morgan to this point. We never really developed the QB room. We relied on our starters and when Jake and Cam fell apart, so did the franchise. That's the one position that you can't really afford not to develop a plan B, but we do it with regularity. Dalton wasn't supposed to be a serious threat to Bryce's job and Jack was never a threat to be anything at all. JMO, but we should always have a young guy we're trying to keep on the bench with at least 2 years in the system. If they're not getting it, move on, but always keep rotating guys through. It seems like 2-3 years really is the magic point for QBs to either get a handle or not. It's probably not going to happen, but I'd really like to see that 3rd QB emergency slot become a permanent place to work on developing young QBs. I think it could benefit every team in the league because it's so hard to carry 3 QBs on the roster with all the turn over during the season due to injuries.
