NY philosophy

I agree with the OP a lot but I really think that if Lane Johnson falls to them the Panthers will assuredly take him. Especially with the Gross situation brewing. If not I could see us going any number of other directions. I'd like to bring in a vet or two on both lines but as everyone loves to point out the cap is a problem. We'll have to wait until the price tags go way down to make that move.

The only thing that bothers me about taking a DT in the first round is the bust rate of DT's. Its about as risky of a pick as a quarterback. I'd be fine with a corner, OL, or S. Just find someone who can fill a hole and be a capable starter for the team for the next 4-5 years or more.

My point is, Gman is taking the approach he was taught how to build a championship team. Some people like me are here waiting for Gman to sign a CB, FS, DT, etc while we're forgetting his philosophy. That is, adding veteran OLs through FA.

I'm more relieved now knowing we're taking the same approach as the Gmen. I'm relieved not kicking my @ss every day bc we're not adding a sexy position.

Excuses excuses, we will see how chatty you are when we go 1-16 and are the whipping posts of the NFL.

I am sick of trying to be optimistic, we are a bad team and we are doing nothing to get better while the rest of the division is stocking up and getting better and better.

This is going to be a brutal year, hope you are ready to see suck major suckage. I am worried this team will start to be categorized along with the Lions, Browns, and Raiders.

Jeff Hatch was a 3rd-rounder in 2002, but interesting point nevertheless. OL picks are conspicuously lacking.

By contrast they've drafted 8 defensive lineman with their first and second rounders alone in the same time period. This is partly what has me convinced we'll sign a vet OG (as Chuck said) and that we'll pay Hardy what he deserves when the time comes. Heavily investing in the defensive line wins you superbowl rings.

GM model has also shown they keep drafting DEs so they don't have to pay DEs what some teams might...how may times have they told Osi to kick rocks?

I also am nut sure the NYG model is the way to go....they haven't actually been one of the more dominant franchises. Some lucky runs and plays have been HUGE for their ring count. GB and NE have built more consistant teams

GB sucks, IMO.

Giants had some really shaky play both seasons they won the Super Bowl, and for years the players hated each other.

I am not sure what to think if Gettleman, I don't think he is used to having a poor coaching staff or having to build from scratch with odds stacked against him.

I am scared to death for the future of this franchise.

if we draft OL in the first couple rounds and the. one or two we draft end up starting, don't be surprised when the OL is worst than last year and it's a couple years before the OL looks good again.

in fact i would just brace yourself for a couple years of bad OL play and cam getting killed.

it can get worse when you expect rookies to protect your QB....I don't care who they are.

Yep...

And if we let our OL gets worse...Ron is gone. I would think odds of Cam leaving will be high as well

Yup, I don't care if we end up with Joeckel at 14. Don't expect Joeckel to come in and play close to what Gross did last season at LT. Rookies will struggle almost every time.

I have also heard that Johnny FB saved Joeckel's @ss a ton of times at A&M. I'd take any average OL over a rookie if I was planning to win "now". Though, it looks like we ain't trying to win now.

We have a real GM now, its going to take some time to turn this thing around...unlike Marty, who was at most, a sports beat writer trying to get a scoop. Never understood what Big Cat saw in him. Marty buried us in mediortiy and fked us for the next year or two...I have faith in Getty....no more Armanti and Clausen picks...no more waiting for a mufker to 'develope' over the next 2-3 years, no more trading first round picks for mufkers that are no longer in the league. I get the impression that the new order is produce or GTFO... Its a new beginning the right way.... Watch and see...we'll be relevant again....but high price btches that cant produce are gonna be gone..

How do you we have a real GM now?

Never been one, and no teams outside Carolina was even willing to interview him..lets wait for him to prove himself a little

This is exactly what I am getting at, a really good head coach like Coughlin makes any GMs job much easier.

I don't understand the hate for Hurney. He has always drafted well for us. Only problem I have with him is that he hold onto players too long (Jake, Peppers, Dwill), while he should've cut or trade them sooner.

Sometime, we should really have to wonder if Hurney was the problem, or is it JR. Don't be crowing Gettleman as King just yet. He hasnt done jack in the NFL as a GM.
