I honestly think the biggest threat is our old buddy Chud in Cleveland at 6th overall. Jets, Titans, and Bills have other needs and there will be players available who fill them.

I'm not a huge fan of Patterson at 14, but I'd be cautiously optimistic with the pick.

I would say we're the best situation for him however, being close to home, wanting to play here, Cam/Smitty/Proehl all around him and helping him. I'd prefer a couple of other guys at the moment, but wouldn't be mad at all.

It's still early. We all know what Suh can be. Good or bad. And at times last season, Fairley was damn good. If Det can help their Dline out by adding some Lbs and DBs, you'll see.

Little is decent, and Flash Gordon looks to be the real deal. The main reason he didn't produce any more than he did was a combination of being a rookie, being buried on the bench for half the season, and spotty QB play.

But can we wait that long? Can any team? McCoy, Dareus, Dorsey...I will give you Sedrick Ellis (who sucks) because the Saints have been playoff calibre since drafting ol boy.. I am sure more examples are floating around out there. My point is that drafting a "talented" DT in the first does not seem to do a lot in terms of making your football team make the playoffs and all that jazz. What can help us get there? Improved OLine and a weapon of a WR. Good defense is predicated on push rush off the edges, we have that. You don't need an All-Star DT, they do not win games Kemo and Isaac Sopoaga we the starting DT's in the super bowl. Drafting a DT high does not work out for you if you plan on winning.

I'd love to have Ellis. I think highly of him. Bad season last year but had always been pretty reliable.

But going back to your point, both teams were 34 D. I would consider Ngata and Justin Smith as DTs in a 43 D.

Meh..We need to get more bodies there, that is for sure...Fua is not it, and I am no Fua hater.I would really like for us to pick up a big run stuffer, no matter how old they are and draft a young guy to groom....just not in the first.

Id hate to pass up another year on another DT but our situation is so bad that I am going to sleep at night wondering if it's best for us to add two veteran DTs through FA, so we can address a CB and WR through the Draft.

Raji? Not to say that many rooks arent successful at the position, I would say Suh was. I would say that most of their teams are not successful. It is not a position that wins you games, period. As long as you have two guy who don't get pushed back you can win. That is why you spend high draft picks on other spots.I am a believer that it takes 3 things to win, edge rush, protection, and weapons who can beat people. We have one of those.

I think people are taking this "no projects" thing a bit too far, TBH. WR is one position where the player doesn't have to start day one to make an impact. Today 3rd receivers are as important - if not more so in many ways - than the two "starters" depending on the offense. Patterson has the ability to make an impact day one the same way Percy Harvin did, who won OROY without being a full-on starter.

Besides, it's every bit as important for us to find Smitty's eventual replacement as it is to get an impact player now. If Patterson can come in and be a productive 3rd WR as a rookie, gain some experience, smooth out those edges a bit, then in 2014 take over as the #2 and in 2015 replace Smith when he retires, that works out very well for us.
