I was telling somebody yesterday that this really isn't true anymore. The league as a whole is too competitive and aggressive and very, very, very few even just "solid" players slip through the cracks. You want a guy, you go get your guy and avoid a bidding war, and if you overpay a little bit, okay then. Fans have been Hurneywashed to be terrified of the word, but forget we've been doing it all along too. Just for players we shouldn't have been rather than ones who could help take us where we want to go.

Just more poor Panther methodology.

most years you might be right and its not just because of us having an upgrade in personnel guys at GM.

this year is abnormal because of the amount of teams that had significant cap troubles having to cut loose talented players. the market is loaded with solid players right now and its only going to keep having players added to it because teams are still working out their cap issues and will do so by dropping more talent.

meanwhile most of the teams that will be buying will have very little money to work with and you'll notice that it's very few teams who have been active at all. very few are flying off the shelves, regardless of how active it seems to have been.

the draft this year is a lot like FA this year, lots of solid talent...not much dynamic, but still solid. this in itself is going to keep the FA shelves stocked with solid and affordable talent. most are going to have to settle for short term contracts.

this year is a buyers market in which those who don't just throw money around early on can find quite a bit of value. our cap may not allow for a ton of activity, but neither does most teams in the league this year and that is going to keep the prices down. we'll also see this FA period lasting quite a while since most shoppers are going to be trying to get the most bang for their buck.

Ok so who is That guy in this free agent class? They did overpay to keep CJ...in a free agent year. Others shall go nameless..

Only guy i would have made a move on is Jarius Byrd buy he is franchised.. Pollard, Goldson, Huff, Mikell.. Not much seperating them.

Miami is overpaying for part time lbers..

Pollard is an animal. He laid so many huge hits in the playoffs. I say take him... he's instantly an upgrade over everything we have in the secondary. Oh yeah, and get Kenny Phillips too.

THAT SAID...

I admittedly know very little about our salary cap and how much we can afford and whatnot. Just print more money! haha

agreed with all of that.

this class of DB FAs is deep, esp. at safety, and there's really not a whole lot of seperation. same with the draft class. i think we end up picking up another safety and CB in the very near future without having to commit a significant portion of the cap or much time and we'll be better off than last year.
