Who's next on the chopping block?

No. He isn't above average. He is paid to be above average and next year he is paid to be Ed Reed.

Even if he is just average he is literally the only bonafied average player in the secondary. The back 4 is ridiculously fragile right now. At least Godfrey made plays that won us games last year.

Shocked if Gross is cut if he tells Gettlemen to pound sand....

Gross isn't a backup RB on a stacked team of rushers. He is the starting LT playing next to a newb on the Franchises blind side and any replacement will be a downgrade for 2013. You aren't paying for Gross....it is essentially a Cam Newton payment.

I get that. But the problem is his contract, not finding a reliable guy to block for Cam's blindside.

He's eating too much money on a bad team.

There are a couple guys who we can bring in if Gross is cut and can still give us stability.

For 2013 we have 0 leverage. If we did Gettleman is already failing at his job for not reworking his deal.

that's a weeee bit on the ridiculous/melodramatic/overreacting side of things.

there's more to his job than the 2013 season. and we absolutely have leverage because beason is going to be looking at security vs. just a one year gig which is what he's looking at elsewhere. the big picture of his career is our leverage.

cutting him outright would hurt us, but also free up some cash/cap, esp. if it was a june 1 cut. it's a very workable cap hit in releasing him.

it's not the big deal you're making it out to be.

The fact that we need a left tackle is a reason to keep him if he doesn't take a pay cut.

That's true but why keep a guy who's eating a big chunk of your money when you can get some of the same stability at that position through FA or the Draft?

I'm looking toward the future of this Francise. I'm not going to be attached to these players that have been good to this franchise. The only way to better this team is to rid ourselves from these bad contracts. Gross has been paid for his plays over the years. It's bout time he need to take one for the team.

I'm pretty sure we have went over this with you already.

We pretty much have to keep him. Cam will get smashed with a new LT working with Amini. Gross is still a top 10-15 LT.

We can find a cheap Vet LT through FA that brings the same stability. Ravens did it with Brian Mickenny and many others teams done it with other players. We don't have to put ourself in a position where our hands are tied to our back. We'll only be worse.

Finding a reliable guy to walk in the door, to play next to Amini, in this scheme.....to protect Newton? Yeah, finding that for 2013 would be a problem.

We have been a couple of easy plays away from being a winning team in 2011 and 2012. Line between not very good and good isn't very big.

Quote.

Start making posts that do not reflect the same amount of football ignorance and maybe I will.

Gross' deal only lasts this year and next, so it's not going to weigh down the franchise for years to come. We more than likely won't be able to find a better guy in free agency. Or save a lot of money doing it. It worked out for the Ravens, but a majority of the time you can't find a quality starting left tackle in free agency (ask the Eagles how easy it was replacing Jason Peters).

I would like to draft a tackle high this year (if the right guy falls), but we're not even sure the draft will pan out that way. We need Gross right now.
