Why can't we ever just make a splash?

I believe if we add a good receiver... not necessarily at big name, but a solid receiver we will be as potent as SF or Seattle. We have the horses at RB, we have a mobile dangerous QB, we have a pro bowl caliber TE and Arguable the greatest 5-9 WR ever to play the game, we have when healthy a solid OL. I would be happy with a good WR in Free Agency and address an offensive linemen and the rest on defensive players in the draft.

When we go to the NFCCG one year, then go to the Superbowl the next year, then we will go pick up someone who we think is the final piece. Until then we have way too many issues to worry about picking a 32 year old receiver on his last leg to somehow get us over the hump. We have a better model in Smith already.

If he was so great then why did the Ravens dump him for a 6th rounder? You would think that if he was so important to the superbowl champs they would have kept him. I wonder what they know that you don't?

This^^^^^

Boldin was a great move by the Niners. They are on the doorstep of winning the SB abd a higer priced vet WR was what they needed.

We are NOT that close and have to build this team right now. Using 6 million of cap for an aging vet is not the right longterm move for this organization.

Just once, trade some future picks to trade back up into the first round and land a couple of studs after you draft a guy for the trenches or a linebacker. Give the QB some more weapons other than Smith. Give Smith some more weapons other than just Smith.

You know how I know that you haven't been a Panther fan for very long?

We have made splashes before (in the past). It makes more sense to make a big move when you are close than when you are coming off a 7-9 season.

Give Gettleman a chance to clean up the books.

bullshit. We have to give Steve Smith more weapons. :)

It's funny for me to read all the doom and gloom. I'm actually fairly optimistic for this upcoming season. I think once the dust has settled we will have had a good draft and acquired some useful complimentary pieces in free agency at prices that we can afford, given our cap distress. I really like the way our defense is shaping up overall. Rivera has proven on multiple occasions that he knows how to build a great defense, and he seems to be doing it again here. Cam is entering his third year and played absolutely great down the stretch last year, looking the best I've ever seen him in terms of decision making, not just flash. We have a young team with quite a few players entering their prime. I just feel good overall. Maybe I'm delusional, but I really think we'll be pleased with the way the Panthers perform this upcoming season.
