Tavon Austin

Recommended Posts

For what it is worth Mel Kiper has us taking Tavon at 14 in his latest mock that I saw today on NFL Live over on ESPN.

I could certainly get on board with this pick depending on what we do in free agency. However, I just wish he were a vertical threat but maybe he could blossom into that roll. The more I watch I just love his versatility and ability to create mismatches in the passing game and make people miss in the open field. I just hope Shula could be creative enough with his playbook to really use Austin to the best of his ability and get him plenty of touches a game.

Leading up to the draft I think his stock will continue to rise steadily and he is a realistic option for us. He can return kicks and punts, run out of the backfield, run sweeps and reverses, and would be lethal in the slot with LBs covering him. In the second level he is a home run threat every time the ball is in his hands much like Patterson.

Say we sign a great guard or one of the more promising defensive tackles or corners in free agency, could anyone else get on board with Tavon at 14? He was originally not on my radar but he is impressive and could be a great weapon in this offense.

I just find it hard to believe that teams are going to draft a slot receiver that high in the first round. The odds of him becoming another Steve Smith are incredibly slim, no one has his heart and passion. If Patterson is gone, I would much rather have Justin Hunter(and possibly an extra 2nd or 3rd pick since he will still be there in the 20's).

It's Cam fuging Newton you're talking about... Not Jake Overthrow Delhomme...

Chill out man. Austin is a sick weapon, and more elusive than pretty much any player in recent history.

1. We barley used the weapons we have already.

It took a whole season to use Tolbert.

We never used Barniage or Adams like we could have.

You are just adding another gimmick to a team who has to many gimmicks already. We were better when we ran a traditional offense and ran the ball down hill.

2. I can see adding a bigger target for the red zone and the fact that when Cam misses a pass he misses High. Which would be perfect for a Bigger WR.

3. I could see him in the Pats offense taking Welker's role but hear we need a actually WR who can become a #1 outside WR. Austin is a slot WR. You don't spend a top 15 pick on a slot WR unless.

Your one player from a superbowl and a slot wr is that position or you are changing the offense to feature a slot WR or you run a west coast or Patriot type offense. We are not in any of these situation..

I would love to have him on this team

I honestly think he is the best WR in the draft with the most upside the only thing that worries me is that he's small but you have to remember that he is fast and elusive he could be like an Wes and a Harvin mix

I just dont trust Patterson but if you look at the combine and game tape from Austin its AMAZING with what Austin can do

1. Austin

2. Patterson

3. Allen

4. Woods

5. Patton

Do you notice how welker only works for 1 offense?

Austin as a slot receiver.

Playmaker is more of a good label for him.

I've been taking him in the first of every falcons mock for a while now. RB by committee with Austin as a rb/slot receiver getting 175-200 touches or so. Dude never has to come out of the game. Going 3 wide with single back? Austin stays on the field in the slot put Rodgers in the backfield. Roddy and julio on the outside then trying to cover austin out of the backfield vs 2 of the best blocking WRs in the NFL? I wish he'd make it to 30 but he wont :(

EDIT: Mel Kiper is a tard who just talks. He doesn't have an opinion.

TBQH you sound like you're still suffering from John Fox Syndrome.

Austin can be similar to Darren Sproles, but way better and an actual threat in the slot or even on the outside. He can also instantly elevate the return game to a non-issue. He'll also be a nightmare out of a full backfield, in that he can act as a running back or a receiver.

It took a whole season to use Tolbert, Barnidge, and Adams because Chud was terrible.

The Panthers don't have gimmicks. They have great players who have been misused and poorly coached.

    • Kraven has awful shitty comic book movie vibes all over it. It's just more of whatever studio owns the rights to the Spiderman set, but no longer actually has Spiderman anymore. Wicked is probably no more enjoyable. 3 hour long musicals are tough to endure.
    • One of those guys who throws a pass that makes you yell "OMG" then immediately follows it with one that makes you go "WTF" 😳 Essentially the Brett Favre prototype...
    • The Giants games are an interesting comparison for sure. We could compare the Chiefs vs the Bucs as well, since at least both teams are largely the same as they are now, rather than the Giants whose coach lost his mind after losing to us. 30-24 KC in overtime. Hunt had 106 yards and Mahomes had 291. Baker threw for 200 yards, but 2 TDs. Their leading rusher had 25 yards or something. Our offense outperformed what the Bucs did vs KC, but being a division game we won't have the benefit of being overlooked. If our D plays how it did in the 4th quarter I think we can get some stops.  Can Bryce carry a second game? I'd rather not find out and have Chuba carry the load, but we'll see.
