Chris Gamble to Retire

When you can give me the number of TDs he has given up or games we have lost because of him in the last three years then you can convince me.

I didn't have a notepad, but I remember many, many times when he gave up big first downs the past two years that led to us losing because of TD scores....and he gets paid as a lockdown corner. So many times the past couple of years, big "must need" plays that I wanted a shutdown corner to make he didn't. That is why stats are misleading... He was good but not what you think he was. The big issue was how much he was getting paid, he had injuries, and now with his retirement it's obvious that he didnt have his head in it. Someone who does at 29/30 years of age would have wanted to keep playing. It is the love of the game

That said, I don't blame him for anything, Hurney paid him what he paid him, He was smart with his money and decided to retire.....Some people just don't hold the same value that you do of him, that is all it boils down to. I love Gamble, i love the way he played for a long time, i respected him as a man and as a player. But he was not the "lockdown corner" some thought he was and should have never been paid like one. Once again, I thank Gamble for everything, GREAT panther player. The best corner we have ever had.

And you people wanted him back... head aint in it. Good riddance. Thanks for some good years though!

Or maybe, just maybe he's come to terms with what he's accomplished in his career and/or doesn't want to play for another team?

"head ain't in it"

What a joke.

As if you know the damn guy.

Oh, and he was definitley "above average" in '11.

So your saying that he wasnt supposed to allow a catch at all? You do know no corner in the league is THAT good to do that. Did you consider that we didnt have a pass rush the last couple years before this one? No corner can cover all day no matter how much he is paid. The whole defense just started seeing improvement this year so i think its been kinda hard to point fingers on a team thats won 15 games in the last 3 years. And its not obvious that his head wasnt in it since he is retiring, like you just said he has had injuries. Maybe he is thinking about his well being and doesnt want to risk further damage to himself. Its never wrong for someone to be comfortable with where there at after doing something so long to say that they are done with it, especially if he is okay financially. Gamble never got paid to be a shutdown corner, he got paid because he was drafted by us and lived up to his status for his years he was here and was worth keeping. Every corner that gets a new contract doesnt have to be considered shutdown. Its funny how people say he got paid to much when every off season we watch free agents for teams get ridiculous contracts they dont deserve. Its a part of the game, hardly anybody is paid what they are worth, they are paid what the other teams wont give them. Take a look at all the CBs that are FA right now, they are probably gonna get more than he will when he got his but none of them are better than him. Just how it works. Wish him luck tho.

You must have not read my entire post, because I specifically stated everything that you said, that you obviously chose to ignore. And he was our highest paid corner, he was our shutdown corner. He did not live up to it. I obviously wish him the best.

I lived across from Chris for a summer when I was still in college and renting an apt. here in Charlotte (which tells you how frugal he was) and talked with him every once in a while.

He was incredibly modest and humble and an overall incredibly nice guy.

Hope him all the best.

Um.......yes i did read your post, and you just said you agreed with everything i said in my post but you obviously dont because i clearly stated i thought he lived up to his status. But im not getting into the back and forth, i wish him luck and thought he was everything he was supposed to be. The team was just to bad to really see what he was capable of.

I never once blamed him for retiring.... You blasted me for that. I never said he shouldn't allow a catch...I said that he was responsible for moment changing plays. I.e. not making a play a shutdown corner (he was the top paid corner, and don't look at other people's cornerback signings that is irrelevant to our team, and the way Hurney was signing our players) should make every now and then that stops the chains from moving...you blasted me for that. I said someone who is his age should not want to hang up the cleats if they are passionate about playing at 29/30 years old. I don't hold any ill will towards him from doing so, poo he is retiring at 30, that is awesome....and you blasted me for that, hence you not reading what i wrote. You pay a corner that much money he should make those big time plays, he didn't. I dont hold any ill will towards Gamble like I said, but it was time to move on, which you have disagreed with. Like you said, no back and forth so thats just my opinion.
