The fact that he doesn't know that we're under the cap after cutting Gamble should let you know that he really didn't do a ton of research for this piece. I don't think we'll be big spenders in FA but we'll definitely be bargain shoppers.

There's no way for us to stand pat and expect improvement.

Says as of Friday. Gamble was cut Friday. Probably had not cleared league as of then.

Don Gettleman is cleaning it up.

Slowly, but he is cleaning it up.

Gettleman walking into Hurneyville after these last 4 years must be like him picking up a freshly dropped pile of warm and steamy dog poop and smearing it all over his own face and then licking his fingers.

I doubt he see's it as that bad.

Our biggest issue from a FO perspective has to be lack of flexibility. It's 100% Richardson's fault we are in the mess, he let his friendship thoughts affect his business thoughts. OR Hurndog was the best salesman ever. Regardless if Don Gettleman can fix this mess in the next couple of years AND get this team improving from a talent standpoint he will have made quite a name for himself.

His lauded skills are exactly what we needed.

  • Can find cheap talent
  • Judges talent by tape not personal feelings
  • No Nonsense grinder
  • Football guy.
  • Comes from Superbowl winning franchises.

If Gettleman has the ability to tell Jerry Richardson "I understand he is a nice guy, but he doesn't help us win and its time to cut him loose" then he will be miles ahead of Hurney already.

Gettlemen said that he is going to build the roster from the bottom up. That is easy to say, and it takes time. However, we take late rounders and developmental players and make them play right away. When they fail, they are abandoned. When you play a player too soon and replace him with a draft pick the following year, he never develops. The reason you had to play him too soon was due to the fact that positions were neglected here for years (CB, DT, WR, etc). Examples?

Josh Norman: a fifth rounder, he should never have been asked to start. Now we want to draft a CB or two.

SIone Fua/Terrell McClain: They suck!!! How many third round DTs in the this league start and do well as rookies? The position has been neglected since we drafted Jenkins..

David Gettis/Joe Adams: Both have been rumored to be in Rivera's dog house. Instead of putting them in a dog house, coach them up, Ron.

Jimmy Clausen: Yes, the man you all love to hate. A second round pick is put behind a scrub (3 starters out) line with no credible TE, 2 rookie WRs, and Jeff Davidson as his offensive coordinator. What could possibly go wrong?

Had we developed our late round picks properly, they might be groomed to take over now. Instead, we threw them into the fire too soon and may have ruined them. We have led the league in IR players, so we should be building on the experience our depth has.

Gettlemen does not have money to put star players in every area of need, but he will create enough to compete at every position. Look for a RG, DT, and CB in free agency.

    • The coach- Canales was a rookie hc and at times looked like it. But he did manage to revamp the offense, helped Bryce not look like the biggest bust of the draft, exuded positivity,  and made the panthers watchable again. We have a viable head coach for the first time since rivera The gm- Morgan had some hits and some big misses. Hits- the ol, Coker, demani, dj at first. Misses- almost every d player signed, brooks, the jury is out on x. I get what he was trying to do with brooks/Hubbard but it blew up in his face. Hopefully he learns from his mistakes. But he did trade mingo for a 4th, managed to get a 2nd rounder this year from the Rams and I am a fan of constantly churning the bottom of the roster The draft- x can be a solid player but not until he catches the ball, brooks was a high risk pick that didn't work out, Wallace, demani and Chau Smith can be solid contributors and showed glimpses, Coker and jt should be mainstays. And flipping a 7th round lb that was about to be cut for Jackson was a great move.  The offense- had its ups and downs but Bryce has turned from one of the biggest busts in nfl history to a potential franchise qb, that change is worth its weight in gold, thielen was crafty and underrated as usual, Coker was a gem, jt was the solid but has some growing to do, and Hubbard has been awesome, the o line was much improved as well The defense- well...they set records, injuries, poor coaching (imo), bad playcalling and just plain sucking this defense needs everything to change, we need horn and Jackson back and we get brown back but we need bodies and an identity. If they can do with the def what they did with the o then we can challenge for the division bc we already have some pieces there.  Overall- this was a growth year full of questions and some of the major ones were answered(qb, coach). For the first time in a long time the season didn't end depressingly and I do have cautious optimism for next year. But they need to learn from the mistakes of 2024 and if they do I like where this team is headed. On to the draft and 2025
    • I disagree. It’s not hard to double a WR and still play the run. It’s called a bracket which you can use with a drop down safety or an OLB. Look up how it’s done. Also in obvious passing situations, doubling a wr is not hard. Falcons torched us in obvious passing situations time after time. 2 min drill, 3rd and long to where there’s no excuse to not focus more on Drake London. Mooney was out. London was the only WR Penix was looking at.  Evero simply can’t make adjustments. He’ll most likely be fired next year. Wish we would’ve just ripped the bandaid off this year. To call all people morons who think we can do better than Evero is a very ignorant and arrogant statement. Who the hell are you?
    • As a rookie head coach, I think he exceeded expectations.  We looked competitive in almost all our games.  I don't think he's hit his ceiling.  7 of 10 for this year.
