Where we don't have holes

I've been spending so much time on advanced stats seeing how bad our secondary sucks I thought I would turn that lemon into lemonade.

Our studs based on WPA (Win probability added) or EPA (Expected Points added) WPA basically counts up the benefit or detriment a play has on the overall probability of winning the game. WPA is credited to a player if he is directly involved in the play. Then you can compare WPA among players at the same position. EPA is similar but with points.

http://wp.advancednflstats.com/defenderstats.php?year=2012&pos=LB&season=all

Our studs

S. Smith #21 in EPA

C. Munnerlyn #13 WPA (sometimes stats lie lol)

D. Williams #11 in EPA

Cam Newton #11 in WPA

C. Johnson #11 in WPA

D. Edwards #11 in WPA

G. Hardy #9 in WPA #11 in EPA

Greg Olsen #3 in WPA #3 in EPA

And the biggest stud on the team.

LUUUUUUUUUUUUKKKEEEEE!!!!!!!!

#2 WPA and #4 EPA

Also #1 in the league for Tackle factor

Does anyone know where you can get OLINE stats for individual players? I think someone posted a link showing Gross' stats weren't bad this year.

I don't pay for the premium stats currently but PFF I think had him far and away the best thing we had

So, is this a good place for me to argue Cooper or Warmick at 14?

I don't think it would be as disastrous as some say. OG isn't a big impact position but has a positive impact on the rest of the line, the running game, Cam's play. But then all the other holes come from FA basically. Maybe we can live with WR in the 2nd round.

PFF had gross at +16.4

27. Carolina Panthers (9)

PB – 27th, RB – 23rd, PEN – 14th

Stud: As is often the case, it’s the ever reliable Jordan Gross (+16.4) who continues to get the job done, even if his performance in Week 17 was the worst we’ve ever seen from him. He may never be an elite tackle, but at least he’s more than a one-tricky pony.

Dud: There was a close competition but ultimately the inability of Geoff Hangartner (-14.5) to get any push in the run game meant he was the way to go.

Summary: The Panthers haven’t been shy about investing draft picks on the line, but with the injury to Ryan Kalil this year it fell apart. Amini Silatolu looked every bit the rookie, while Byron Bell isn’t good enough, often enough, to be a starter in this league yet.

the guy can still play

Yea, Capt. can be a positive factor on our defense as long as he's not asked to cover a team's #1 or 2 receiver. Keep him in the slot where he's not having to cover a guy 15 yards or more down the field and he's above average at his job. This year and two years ago he did well when confined to that role. Luckily Rivera learned from past mistakes when Gamble got hurt and didn't force Capt into a role he isn't able to fill like last year.

I like D-Lo and all... but there needs to be some context to this. Sure, he beasted like the last 2 or 3 games, but we lost a poo ton of games as a direct result of the run game continuously getting shut down drive after drive.

really? and that was all DWILLs fault? Nothing to do with the coaching, O line and the opposing D knowing exactly what play was next...

I never said it was. I just don't think anyone who watched us play this season can really say Deangelo was more effective than Smitty, and just as effective as Cam, CJ, etc.

We had o-line and coaching issues, yeah I totally agree that fuged up the running game this year, but point blank you can't give him credit for something he didn't do, regardless of those issues. That being said, I still love me some D-Lo.

Well...lets take the OL out of the talk as they where bad. Made life hard on everyone.

The scheme is X. Whether it be 2011, 2012 or 2013. Overall they want a RB to do X. Williams is better suited for Y. They can try to work in Y....but Williams not being great at X is why he was demoted 2 yrs in a row. Also why he always went backwards more than any other runner and goes down so easy now.
