How do you feel, now, after dissing Pep?

It's just so amazing to me. I don't mean anything personal to anyone, really, I just don't. But are you really telling me that you have your original jobs and have never quit for another position since your were like 16? Huh? If you have quit, since you had an ongoing contract, you broke that contract by taking off for another opportunity. You broke your contract, you simply broke it but your employer let you off because it was a poo job that was easily replaced. Peppers fulfilled the terms of his contract and for all intents and purposes was no longer a part of the team, got franchised and is still no longer a part of the team unless he decides to sign his franchise tender and he says I'd like to move on. You're all pissed off because he pissed you off on a personal level, because he doesn't want to play long term for your beloved Panthers. Shallow Hal, that's all I can say...

Like I said, I'm not pointing at anyone personally, I just can't even fathom why someone would maintain such Panthers hate for Peppers, it's just craziness to me...

It's not that I can't see there is hate, it's just that i really can't understand it, I just can't...

It's not about him wanting to leave, I can understand him wanting a change of scenery, what I can't understand is why would he trash and bash the team and burn every bridge in an effort to get out, completely giving the finger to eveything this organization has done for him.

Well see, that's just the whole thing I can't understand. When did he trash and bash the team? He didn't. Maybe his agent did a little, but Peppers never did. Where did he burn all his bridges, he's coming back and his teammates applaud it. It's the fans who have the outrage. :D

Well I know he and Carey are a bit different relationship wise but since an agent works for a player and speaks for a player, he is always assumed (and rightfully so, IMO) to be putting that player's thoughts into words to further that player's agenda, whatever it is.

Now would Pep have stated those thoughts the same way if at all publicly? Who knows, probably not, but I am willing to bet that what Carey said, Pep felt or at least agreed with (not being used to his potential, etc.). Otherwise, why would Pep have refused that deal after his worst season in the NFL?

Does it mean I am trashing Pep? No. Does it mean I won't root for him on this team? No. Does it mean that I would boo him if he does poorly? Also, no. Do I think he "owes" the team anything? No, nothing except his best effort this year for the money they will pay him. Yes I think the paycheck is too big for the production but the fact of the matter is that they must overpay a bit to keep him this year. C'est la vie. Likewise, the team owes him nothing and both sides must simply do business.

IMO, had he simply not let Carey say any of this in the press and he wasn't a hometown guy, there likely wouldn't be this level of anger agaist him. I am disappointed in Pep that he let all that come out publicly and will never view him in quite the same way again.

Disappointment is very different than intense hate. That's what I don't understand, why the fans are taking it so personally?

Local & team pride is my guess.

Some people get VERY offended when their area or team is dissed by a public figure, especially one from the area.

Yeah, but to be that emotional that you would get that crazy probably means you need therapy...

Hey you're talking to someone who lives near a constantly dissed city and I believe it should be dissed because it IS bad news, so don't ask me about how one gets that mindset! :D

Some of it could be projection I guess too. We love our teams/cities/whatever and anyone "dissing" them is kind of a blow to our ego and what we value as important or great because we love them. Some people get all het up about it, some feel wounded and don't say much, some don't care much either way, etc.
