Leaked NFL Documents: While Owner Cried Hardship, Carolina Panthers Had $112 Million Profit Over Two Years

Kinky.

Sounds like you are losing the argument

Just trying to point out the hypocrisy. You've also have people in Charlotte government that want to give tax money(millions) for a streetcar. But let the Panthers ask for public money and it's an apocalypse.

Think about it also in terms of getting a Super Bowl played in Charlotte, as it relates to upgrades. Indy and Jacksonville have hosted Super Bowls....freaking Jacksonville. Are they better cities than us? And don't discount what hosting a SB can do as far as luring economic development to the area.....which means jobs.

Not a pretty story by any means.

It will sort itself out.

I did stumble upon this. One couldn't fault Manning for throwing a zinger. I doubt he does, but one can't fault him after that.

Peyton Manning & Jerry Richardson part 2.

Remember when Carolina Panthers Jerry Richardson in a condescending tone once scolded Peyton Manning by saying

‘Do I need to help you read a revenue chart son? Do I need to help break that down for you because I don’t know if you know how to read that?’

Part of me wishes Peyton would send a zinger off towards Richardson thanking him for making his financials public and helping him understand the Carolina Panthers revenue charts.

Over the last several seasons, Jerry has indicated he's losing money. He could have paid off Fox but the argument was that it would be expensive.

Now Jerry is simply going to the city and other entities for free money while trying to hide the fact that there's lots it available.

Bottom line: Jerry cannot be trusted.

It's unfortunate that people like this can be so wrong and still think they know what they are talking about. There is no law against ignorance and luckily this is just sports but people this uninformed vote on actual issues in this country. Scary.

This approach is typical of this board (and others): when someone reveals the truth, assault their intelligence and use words like 'uninformed' and 'ignorance.'

Here's your link where Jerry discusses, among other subjects, 'negative cash flow.' Watch the video before reading this post.

Now let's take a look at the facts.

In that press conference, when asked why he didn't buy out John Fox's contract, Jerry said he had a business to run. So it's fair to say Jerry gave us two lame duck seasons because he didn't want to pay the $11.4 million termination. Yet it's clear now that Jerry had the money; he chose not to pay that money. In the same press conference, Jerry said people at business schools would look at the NFL revenue share and call it unsustainable. Yet we know the model, then, was sustainable.

I don't know why Jerry's going to the city and state for $200-$300 million of free money. Meetings, despite the laws, are held in private. Either he's looking at other sports team owners and saying, "give me some of that!" or he needs the money to be financially viable. In the press conference from early 2011, Jerry laments the sorry state of the economy and mentions municipal governments. Please...save me from the fake lacrymation.

Either way, the financial truth emerged this past week. Jerry's fine and, as a capitalist, that's OK with me. However, the Panthers issued a crude and vacillating press release in response to an ACTUAL financial document on the deadspin page. From said press release:

"A detailed review of the financial statements demonstrates the difficulty of being competitive in the NFL, paying players to the cap, and trying to add the financing of a major stadium renovation."

They never said the document was a fake. The press release is an exercise in semantics.

Yet...the team itself is saying, through that language, there is "difficulty" being competitive.

For years, Jerry has been trying to say it's a struggle financially.

That's the story Jerry is trying to send. Yet the actual numbers, as we now know, reveal a different story.

You can fire away at me all you like. I recommend you fire away at Jerry Richardson, who cannot be trusted.

Worse still when it comes to another important number, WINS AND LOSSES, Jerry is 138-160 and, in the last 5 seasons, the record is:

12-4

8-8

2-14

6-10

7-9

During this period, using the excuse of the lockout, he committed the horrible sin of keeping a lame duck coach for TWO seasons. By doing so, he thumbed his nose at us, the fans...the people who pay to attend games. He had the money to get rid of John Fox but he decided not to pay that money.

I understand why the Jerry apologistas resort to personal assaults on the people who criticize Jerry. Members of Jerry's fan club can't take the admittedly brutal truth: he's a mediocre owner, at best.

And yes...I vote. I will NOT vote for the sycophantic politicians who direct money toward a business that's earning a healthy profit.

Jerry--if you need bigger jumbotrons so the opposing fans who routinely flood OUR stadium can watch their players score against us, go to a bank and get a loan. And if you need help finding a bank, walk out your front door.

Ok. So whats gunna happen? Are we gunna get stadium upgrades from the city of charlotte and be here for 15+ years or are we gunna run the rish of moving? Honest, innocent question. Dont flame me.

To be honest I think it is just a scare tactic. The value of this franchise has risen by $40M every year and is now worth over $1B. JR has proven that he doesn't need to put a winning product on the field (3 or 4 winning seasons in 18) to make money as we have had sell outs since 2001 bc of PSLs.

And if the Panthers do move teams will fight over coming here as this city has proven to be a cash cow for the nfl.
