Drafting a Guard in the first round

He is hardly a sack problem. He actually shows very solid in pass protection. He is essentially a sure fire stick at RG in the NFL. A likely pro bowler with All Pro potential at the position.

You was saying how great his athelism is and can get protection down the field. If he is that great he should be lining up at DT.

if there's no player better than a guard at 14 its a crappy draft. if he's the best option we trade back.

Listen, I get it. I would want someone other than a guard at 14. But i rate Warmack very high on my personal board. I get what everyone is saying who doesn't want to draft Warmack at 14 if he is there. But we better be damned sure we are getting someone who is gonna make the impact that he will make. And again, most of you don't think he would make as big of an impact as i think he will.

Sturdy guard with dominating strength at the point of attack and enough mobility to clear the way for Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram, 2012 top five pick Trent Richardson, and probable first round pick Eddie Lacy over the last three seasons. His toughness and durability are outstanding, and he grades out as one of the elite talents in the 2013 draft, and as a probable starter day one on Sundays -- and he'll stick around for a long time.

The main motivation for going guard in the 1st is that our interior OL is such poo. It got blown up on a routine basis and could be argued that it is a larger hole than OT. Amini is a D2 scrub who is still learning and the Hangartner/Byers experiment was ludicrous.

Amini may be from a D2 school, but he's far from a scrub and such a comment shows you either didn't watch him much, or didn't know what you were watching.

RG is an issue, but that's about all that needs to be fixed immediately for our line to improve greatly. I don't think we need to blow a first round pick on a position you could easily fill in the 4th.

#14 is just too high for an OG. Warmack looked like the type of prospect that might warrant taking an OG that high, but he pretty much blew it at the Combine.

If one of the top 3 OTs is there at #14, that'd be tough to pass up. But OG at #14? Ugh.

OT, DT, WR, DB. I'd be fine with any of those positions.

He basically help lead the way for possibly three straight 1st round picks(neither of the first two lived up to their bills of yet). Every single remark that is stated in that review is exceptional and exactly what you look for in a pick in the draft. Yeah Guards are cheap, but thats because they rarely come into the league with this type of ability.

San Fran took Iupati in the first a few years ago and now he is one of the best players in all of the NFL.

Iupati is not one of the best players in the NFL, he's not even the best G in the NFC. I can think of 3 in the NFC South alone I'd rather have.

Yep, the top OG ends up "sliding" every year. But, he's not really sliding, he's just going where he was always going to go. Analysts hear scouts raving about the guy and think that means he's going to go in the top 15. No. They're raving about the guy, but he's still an OG. The best OG in the draft usually goes in the late 1st or early 2cd.

Usually more skill positions go in the early rounds. But this class is severely lacking in top end talent at the skill position. Instead its just loaded with mid level prospects that will be available in the later rounds.

If Floyd, Milliner, Joeckel, Fisher, Lotulelei, Ansah, L Johnson, Jordan, or Mingo are gone. I'd rather see us take the impact that Warmack can make for years with Cam than taking a flier on a player like Patterson or Richardson.

To hell with Mingo though. That dude just screams BUST. I've never seen such pedestrian stats out of a guy so highly regarded. Vernon Gholston all over again.
