Rank the QBs

Can't agree with most picks after #5, but here are my top 5. The rest will be added later.

1. P. Manning

2. Brady

3. Roethlisberger

4. McNabb

5. Rivers

based on playoff performance.

Seeing Aaron Rodgers

Carson Palmer

Jay Cutler

Matt Ryan

Tony Romo

Chad Pennington

Joe Flacco

in the top 10 is a little disturbing.

To post my list again. I ranked these players not solely on past experience and big games. Peyton Manning was no.1 because he pretty much carried that Colts team down the stretch last season. There were actually a plethora of criteria I used, including but not limited to:

performance down the stretch (did they perform better as the season progressed?)

durability (how many games missed?)

efficiency (QB rating, total yards, stat talk)

upside (youth, performance as a rookie)

the object is to gauge how well they can do in 2009. It's not about what they did 5 years ago that I'm gonna credit them a higher rating. Matt Hasselbeck would've probably been in the top 10 3 years ago. The farthest I went back was 2007.

1. Peyton Manning

2. Tom Brady

3. Drew Brees

4. Philip Rivers

5. Kurt Warner

6. Donovan McNabb

7. Aaron Rodgers

8. Ben Roethlisberger

9. Eli Manning

10. Carson Palmer

11. Jay Cutler

12. Matt Ryan

13. Tony Romo

14. Chad Pennington

15. Joe Flacco

16. David Garrard

17. Matt Cassell

18. Matt Schaub

19. Jake Delhomme

20. Jason Campbell

21. Matt Hasselbeck

22. Trent Edwards

23. Marc Bulger

24. Kyle Orton

25. Brady Quinn

26. Kerry Collins

27. Shaun Hill

28. JaMarcus Russell

29. Matthew Stafford

30. Tarvaris Jackson

31. Mark Sanchez

32. Josh Freeman

You don't consider Carson Palmer to be a top 10 QB??

i guess he doesn't, which isn't exactly fair.

The Bengals' passing game is pretty much the only thing they've ever had to hang their hat on. The defense is terrible and there's no running game and their offensive line is marginal at best. Last year they gave up 51 sacks,<---it's no wonder Palmer struggled.

His only playoff game was a loss but I remember he tore his ACL because Von Oelhoffen fell into his leg and up until that point he had pretty much gone stride for stride in scoring with Pittsburgh.

He's had two 4,000+ yard passing seasons in a row.

For my List here, I used Advanced stats. I didn't use regular stats such as QB rating or passing yards as my main barometer. I looked at Advanced stats first, Adjusted yards, Air Yards, Adjusted Air yards. Then after that I looked at the normal stats such as passing yards and QB rating, TD - INT rating and such. I'm basing this off of last year alone (except in the case of Tom Brady, who was injured last year. In his case I used his 2008 season stats.) I didn't use age as a factor in this ranking either.

1. Tom Brady

2. Payton Manning

3. Phillip Rivers

4. Kurt Warner

5. Aaron Rodgers

6. Drew Brees

7. Donovan McNabb

8. Ben Rolthesburger

9. Carson Palmer

10. Chad Pennington

11. Jake Delhomme

12. Matt Ryan

13. Jay Cutler

14. Eli Manning

15. Joe Flacco

16. Tony Romo

17. Matt Schaub

18. David Garrad

19. Jason Campbell

20. Matt Hasselback

21. Kyle Orton

22. Trent Edwards

23. Marc Bulger

24. Kerry Collins

25. Matt Cassel

26. Brady Quinn

27. JaMarcus Russel

28. Tavarius Jackson

I didn't list the rookie Qb's at all.

If anyone wonders why I took Drew Brees out of the top 5. It's because using Adjusted stats, it's apparent that the NO system is successful because of check downs turned into big plays. As he had more YAC yards then any other QB last year. Using those stats he wouldn't be a top 10 QB, even with all the yards. I know for a fact he's a top 10 QB, which is why I placed him where I did. It's also the reason I went back and added in regular stats, cause using just the advanced stats I felt there was some discrepancy's.

Good stuff Carpanfan96! I like the importance you place on those other things rather than OMGZ!!! He had over 4K yards!!!

Romo has good skills, but he's another one who suffers playing wise as the year goes on. Can't really justify his being called a great QB until he gets that corrected. I heard a local beat reporter for the Cowboys say yesterday that he thinks that Romo's teammates don't have confidence in him when it's crunch time. That is a big deal, IMO.

He was still producing even in the cold Green Bay air. He's a very good QB who, because he's not Brett Favre, doesn't get nearly the amount of respect he should. Especially considering that was only his first year of starting.

I think he's a very good QB i just don't think top 5.

5-6-7 were very close on my list. You could move Mcnabb into 5th or brees into 5th. I just felt like with all the pressure he had on him and the environment he was playing in. That he would have a slight edge.

Like I said though Those 3 spots could be interchanged with each other, I guess it would depend on preference in that sense.
