Proudiddy's Sometimes Weekly, Semi-Monthly, Not that Recently Released to Home Media, Movie Review - "The Grey"

9/10.

I was told I wouldn't like the ending prior to checking it out myself and I can't say that I would describe my feelings as "not liking the ending," but it wasn't how I wanted it to end.

For some reason, I found it as a breath of fresh air because how often do you sit and watch a movie and say "no way that would happen, this is stupid." Once you got past the idea that these were some super-mutant wolves and the fact that they were somewhat poorly presented aesthetically, the plot was amazing and the delivery was even better in terms of performance.

It flowed really well and again, if you embraced the concept that these wolves were just as socially active, if not moreso, with each other than the humans they were hunting, then it is easy to buy into what happens after.

Ideally, I would've liked for them all to make it out obviously so the movie kept you engaged by holding out hope. Towards the end, you were hoping Ottway and Henrick would at least make it, but when it got down to Ottway, for some reason, I felt satisfied in the ending because too often the protagonist makes some unbelievable jump from the edge of a cliff to grab on to the side of a chopper flying by.

Cinematography was excellent. And I was really pulled into the movie the performances of not just Neeson, but the supporting actors, of whom I can't really say I have ever seen them in anything else. It was perhaps their performances that sold the movie despite the idea that these wolves simply wanted to murder them. Maybe I'm in the minority but I found it to be one of the most gripping yet, complete movies I've seen in awhile outside of The Dark Knight Rises.
