Bucky Brooks' latest mock (has us passing on Patterson). Hmmph.

top dawg

Newton is not a pin point passer and having a receiver who can only catch the ball when it hits him in his chest is going to lead to incompletions. Patterson does not attack the ball so each pass is going to have to be perfect for him to catch and we all know in the NFL this just doesn't happen that often.

Just stating to the truth.

What part of this screams great WR?

http://espn.go.com/c...relle-patterson

He averaged 3.3 catches per game for 46 yards in SEC play. A total of 3 TDs in SEC play.

I'm not saying the guy doesn't have potential, I just think he's way too boom or bust to take at #14 overall when we have so many other needs.

Stop saying SEC play.

It is not the benchmark.

My take on Patterson - he's an incredible athlete and is devastating in the open field. More so than Green. More so than Jones.

The problem is that he's a body catcher. That scares the poo out of me. He's 'raw', but he was being coached in JUCO y'know. That flaw should have been ironed out by now.

Patterson played in the same SEC as both Green and Jones. While he did have a lot of YAC yards and TD's that spring from his athletisism and return mentality and ability he had quite a few plays where he just lined up and beat his guy vertically and made the catch.

Patterson didn't get to choose who was defending him any more than anyone else did, but the numbers and the highlights speak for themselves. I'd love to see him as the WR 3 and KR, with Smith moving to the slot when Patterson is on the field. Now you have a vertical threat on the outside to extent the D and Smith to work them underneath. On the opposite side you have a big target in LaFell who is coming into his own.

Is there a resource to find out who he took his snaps against? I'll have to dig deeper into his stats.

1. Yeah for 1 season the other 2 put up good numbers consistently for a few years. Then your talking about 1 route. There are nine in the route tree for most pro offense and the most he knows is 3 or 4. That's not good for a top 15 pick WR.

2.What kind of dumb reasoning is this "he didn't get to choose who covered him". Of course not. If the other team deemed you to be the best WR they put their best CB on you. The problem is teams picked to put their best CB on Hunter.

And if we draft a wr at 14. I would hope he is competing against Smith and Lafell for starting positions. Not being a 3rd WR special teams guy.

You guys should really do a better job of listening to what the GM says.... he said PROTECTING NEWTON is his #1 priority. That means he's taking a slab of beef, probably at 14

Oh, are you suggesting that the rank-and-file Huddlers don't know what Gettleman is saying? GMs say a lot of things, especially in regards to the draft, but at the end of the day they are going to take the BPA in fitting with their needs. Moreover if said BPA is believed to be a generational talent at his position, then most GMs will take him regardless of whether they need him or not.

The key word in your opinion is "probably". Because no one knows, that's where the discussion, analysis and guesstimates begin.

How many of those games ended with them raising the Lombardi Trophy?

Absolutely ridiculous, everyone knows it takes a team to win. Patterson can score at will. He has huge upside regardless of what the naysayers say out there.

He is slower, smaller, weighs less, has smaller hands, shorter arms, can't jump as high and can't jump as far but sure he is on par with Jones.

You say this as if they are vastly different, they are not

he also said he was going to bring in TD makers.and even so, he could have been refering to FA as protecting Cam.BPA will be the pick at 14.

SEC play. It is the benchmark when it's the conference you play in. Putting up huge numbers against the likes of Troy doesn't mean poo.

He wasn't very good in it as a WR. All-purpose guy, sure. WR, not so much.

Big risk at #14. Boom or bust.
