Steve Smith ESPN E-60 Interview (a few months ago)

Not to instigate here, but c'mon man. You know this isn't just about someone saying Steve Smith is better than Jerry Rice. Take Jerry rice out of this comment and insert wide receiver x y or z and you would come swooping in to knock on Steve. It's no secret, we have all seen it. While I agree that Jerry Rice is the greatest WR to ever lace up his cleats, there is no reason to stomp on most fans favorite player around here. It's not cool. If you don't like Steve then fine, there are a lot of us that do. Show a little class and let us enjoy the last couple seasons of the greatest Carolina Panther of all time.

Claiming he is better than Rice is just something you can't claim. Saying it isn't so...isn't stomping on Steve Smith. It isn't being uncool or classless. It's just reality.

Let him be the GOAT in Pantherland. Claiming he is better than Rice just silly and shouldn't occur. It's going full retard.

Saying Rice is the GOAT...doesn't keep you, me or the Easter bunny from enjoying what he has done.

Heaven forbid a Panther fan fawn over a player. Some contrarian yahoo has to come along to pee on the parade.

Until Cam came along, Smitty never had an elite QB. Jake was good for a couple years, but no where near good enough to fulfill Smitty's potential. Saying Smitty is one of the best WRs of all time is not a stretch. His numbers match up well. Except the TDs. He has a very real chance to finish his career in the top ten. Not bad from a guy playing with basically second teir QBs.

Put Smitty in Rice's place and who knows what he could have put together. All I know is his numbers would be far better than what he has from playing with our QB pool.

Conversely, put Rice in Smitty's place and his numbers would plummet.

Having a HOF QB is a WRs best friend. Smitty never had that luxury.

I disagree with the Delhomme hate...people always want to knock Delhomme when on there Steve Smith is the greatest man ever born soapbox.

Pre Tommy John Jake was a dang good QB. His best year individually in the NFL was the one year he didn't play with Smith....yet some act as Smith made him not a bum.

Jake's style was a good fit for Smith.

I agree that Jake was a good QB for a while but I don't think his style ever changed. When he lost the arm he couldn't gamble like he did before and it revealed his flaws as a QB. He had some of his best games when Smith wasn't around because he had to balance himself and the offense. I still don't think he was ever a top 5 guy throughout his career except for maybe a season or two. Smitty was targeted a lot and he did have a good PA strategy going when we had a run game but he didn't have a legit #2 WR or a very creative offensive mind for a long time.

    • First of all Sooners fan? Mods? Second if you think someone needs a specific reason to hate Texas you don’t watch real college football.
    • 100% even if rest of team is really talented if they march young out to be qb and he plays like he has for 90% of his starts the panthers have already lost doesnt even matter how good the rest of the team is or isnt and also makes it hard to even tell how good they are.  They need true competition for young this offseason.
    • It will be awesome to have an improved stadium to lose in I guess....   https://www.yahoo.com/news/panthers-file-rezoning-bank-america-111500840.html     The Carolina Panthers have taken another necessary step toward renovating their home of the present and future. Panthers Stadium, LLC, filed its rezoning site plan with the city of Charlotte on Monday, initiating an important — if mostly technical — step toward renovating Bank of America Stadium. The filings state that the rezoning relates “primarily to technical aspects associated with improvements to Bank of America Stadium,” and that the rezoning is required because “the current stadium zoning is out of date” for the team’s stadium renovation plans.   The planned stadium updates include new seats installed throughout the upper and lower bowls; stadium safety and security enhancements; a reimagined South Lawn Pavilion; upgraded restrooms; exterior enhancements (including LED video boards) and more. Planning for the stadium renovation project will continue through 2025, with construction starting in 2026 and the renovation’s conclusion in 2029, The Observer previously reported.
