Steve Smith ESPN E-60 Interview (a few months ago)

top dawg

Posted on Youtube several months ago. It is the full length version of "the stare video". I know I haven't seen it, and couldn't find it here, so I am posting it. It is just a human interest piece that gives flashes of insight into the enigma that is 89.

Steve Smith is the fuggin man. In his prime I think he was(and is) one of the best to ever play this game. Fug Moss, Fug Rice, Fug Megatron. Give me 05 Smith all day every day. So dangerous with the heart of lion. I don't care what anyone says

Fug Jerry Rice? He put up Smitty 2005 numbers for several consecutive years...and was the ideal teammate

...and Smith did this with Delhomme at QB, ultra-conservative Fox @ HC, and without other consistent threats to keep the opposing defense honest......all on a team that ran a greater percentage of plays than it passed.

Not taking anything away from Rice, as he was the greatest of all time, but circumstances out of Smith's control prevented him from being MUCH higher in a lot of relevant statistical categories. Rice did play on a pass heavy offense, with Steve Young/Joe Montana/Rich Gannon (in his prime), with many other weapons surrounding him...on Super Bowl winning TEAMS (as in other players helped them win championships).

Steve Smith is not better than Jerry Rice.

Playing with Jake also made him one of the most highly targeted players in the NFL. It goes both ways. Smith also played against D's focused on playing the run which also helps. People act as like Rice wasn't doubled covered and Smith spent his career under conditions of the NFCCG against Seattle.

Rice was more complete. Smitty has always been more of a chain mover. Scored more than 8 TDs once in his career....Rice did it 12 times.

Damn do you always lead the anti Smith discussion CRA?

Rice played with two HOF QB's. Smith's strength was never as the redzone threat but we've seem him make the fade route several times in his career. Smith is probably the best YAC WR to play the game. I know people don't like bringing up highlight reels but Smith's is just about the most impressive I've seen. He's made some damn crazy plays his in his time. You can tell me all day how superior Rice is, more complete whatever but if you ask me to pick a WR for one game in the prime of his career I'm taking Steve Smith. The man scored at will on that punt return in the NFCCG, when he was finally shut down at WR. Call it great special teams, I think it's Smith being a boss.

Yes Smith beat up teammates, it doesn't change the fact that he's the best player in the history of the franchise and when he hangs it up he will the be the all time Panther legend discussed decades from now(same with Cam).

Yeah, bc saying Steve Smith isn't better than Jerry FREAKING Rice is such an anti Smith view.

Sorry, when homerism gets taken to absurd levels it must be called out. No point nitpicking saying one does x better....Rice was hands down better overall. I am sure Jerry had nothing to do with his QBs success huh

I met Steve Smith and his family in the Bobcats team store. Very nice people. Steve looks at some Jordans but mainly just stood in one spot and watched the basketball game on the tv. His wife and 2 sons were shopping in my section so I helped them buy some jerseys and stuff. Steve was nice but got frustrated with how long it was taking them to shop. I think it was because it was close to near the end of the game and he new the team store was about to get a big time rush and he didn't want to get hounded by crazy fans.

Not to instigate here, but c'mon man. You know this isn't just about someone saying Steve Smith is better than Jerry Rice. Take Jerry rice out of this comment and insert wide receiver x y or z and you would come swooping in to knock on Steve. It's no secret, we have all seen it. While I agree that Jerry Rice is the greatest WR to ever lace up his cleats, there is no reason to stomp on most fans favorite player around here. It's not cool. If you don't like Steve then fine, there are a lot of us that do. Show a little class and let us enjoy the last couple seasons of the greatest Carolina Panther of all time.
