Mock Offseason by Snow

FA note

Per all the hints Rivera and Gettleman have been dropping about "playmakers", I think they are trying to wiggle enough cap room for 1 decent FA signing, potentially at WR. I honestly think we are gonna try and lure Mike Wallace or Dwayne Bowe but realistically, there are other options (non-Hackett/Murphy types) if we can't get the $ situated for one of the top wideouts. We will see most likely in about 12 days but I'm gonna go out on a limb:

WR - Brandon Lloyd (Scenario: Patriots cut him and grab Wallace)

CB - Tony Carter (Ideal CB to target imo if Denver doesn't re-sign him)

FB/TE - Delanie Walker (I can see him re-signing with SF but I'd love him here)

Draft

Round 1) OG - Chance Warmack (Alabama)

note: Fill that gaping hole on our line with the best lineman in the entire draft. I think he's available come draft day. If not, go Lane Johnson or Patterson.

Round 2) DT - Brandon Williams (Miss Southern St.)

note: beast. I think he is the most fitting DT candidate for our line in the draft. Can play 1 through 5 tech. 6'1 335 [D-line: CJ-Dwan-Brandon-Kraken(Frank)]. Other candidates: Quinton Patton/Hunter/T-Williams

Round 4) FS - DJ Swearinger (South Carolina)

note: I hope he's here because I think he'd be a good fit in our secondary.

Round 5) WR - Corey Fuller (Virginia Tech)

note: Fuller makes big plays when needed and outshined Davis this season from my perspective. Good size, breakaway speed (track runner), and an overall well rounded player minus some blocking issues that can for sure be fixed.

Round 6) QB - Matt Scott (Arizona)

note: I think he could be a good backup QB for us. Could fit in the offense well if called to step up.

Round 6 comp I) WR - Rodney Smith (Florida St.)

BIG receiver that we can bring in for competition. Smith-FA-LaFell-Fuller-Smith (We're good to go)

Round 6 Comp II) TE - Mychael Rivera (Tennessee)

note: new athletic TE

i really would have liked it a bit.....maybe switch the 6 with wr buckner or harrison....could have picked another position besides te at the end. since you got walker...gary is a good back up.

matt scott wont be their at 6....hell be around 3-5.

overall love the first 3 just would change the rest.....and get better corner.....is tony carter really good???

Barnidge is a good backup but not currently on the team (UFA). I just hope we get a TE to compliment Olsen. Having Shockey in Cam's 1st year really helped and that FB/TE type could bode really well in our system.

Carter seemed liked a solid starting CB in Denver across from Bailey. Nothing flashy or a big playmaker but he gets the job done. He's shorter than I'd like but we do have Norman and Thomas.

At DT, if we end up going after a NT in the FA instead of the draft, I think Desmond Bryant or Sammie Lee Hill would be good options.

This is a great offseason, but I think gamble will be cut to make room for those FA signings

'preciate it

I agree but was thinking releasing Gamble may not necessarily be set in stone. It does free up a lot of cap room. If we did get rid of Gamble, I'd probably have Sean Smith as my FA...but I'd stick with the draft as is and maybe swap Scott for a CB.

    • I don't get the Hunter hate. Just imagine his ceiling if he stopped trying to be this 2way freak and focused on one side of the ball
    • 100%.  You have to play the cards that are dealt.  Not the cards you wish were dealt.
    • I'd say its definitely going to be addressed this off-season.  We went into the last draft with a roster of RBs including:  Chubba, Blackshear, and Miles Sanders. We picked Jonathan Brooks in the second and still signed Rashaad Penny afterwards.  Fast forward....One turned into a top 10 back, 1 is injured/out for most if not all the '25 season, 1 retired, 1 will either take a huge paycut or be cut, and the last is a restricted free agent. We brought in Mike Boone as well. Add him to the free agent list also.  We need a physical option.    Which qualifies:  Ashton Jeanty(Boise St): Overall ranked Top 10. Almost 2k yards after contact, 28 tds. Would take our first rounder. My money would be on an NFC East team selecting him. (97.2 PFF run grade) - 121 forced missed tackles.  Omarion Hampton(UNC): Ranked everywhere from 20 - 59 overall. Consensus #2 back after Jeanty. He'll be a second rounder. 1,222 Yards after contact w/ 15 tds.  (90.5 PFF run grade) - 72 forced missed Tackles Kaleb Johnson(Iowa): Ranked from 38 - 69 depending on which media outlet you prefer but generally #3. 2nd/3rd possibly. 1,060 Yards after contact w/ 21 tds.(86.7 PFF run grade)- 66 forced missed tackles Cam Skattebo: Ranked from the 50's - 104. Every mock I do he ends up BPA at some point. 969 Yards after contact w/ 17 tds(92 PFF Run Grade). Probably the best receiving back of the group. 81 forced missed tackles.  If the '24 and '25 draft classes were combined, IMO the rankings would be, in order: Jeanty, Hampton, Brooks, Johnson, Skattebo. I wouldn't take one high but I'd take one for Chubba and Brooks insurance.
