Louis Murphy

Then give your QB more time to throw by using picks for Lineman. No telling what the offense could be if they could effectively pass block and open holes for the running game. Continuing to pick up recievers while your QB runs for his life has been done.

LOL @ Murphy getting better. Murphy is a vet, if he aint got it by now we are better off just looking somewhere else to fill the role. Regardless, the position still needs to be upgraded and we should be able to get a good talent in this draft. Most of our WR core are FAs after this year anyway. We have to get somebody thats gonna be a huge upgrade.

... We don't have much luck drafting WR's so i wouldn't want to waste a pick with bigger needs (OL) right now...but eventually we will have to draft an elite WR in the first round. Murph isn't that impressive and is servicable as a 4th... just wonder what the hell is up with Gettis...Think LaFell is going to see more throws this year and I like his progress to this point, he could be our new Moose....

agreed wholeheartedly.

the team can't afford to sit around and wait to see if one of the guys on the squad can step up. they need to be a whole lot more proactive in building that passing offense and improving the WR corps and wait and see is not being proactive.

until you have built a great WR corps, you don't have one.

btw...that isn't saying that OL should be neglected. that needs to be upgraded as well, esp. on the right side. it's not an either/or type deal.

we haven't had luck in the past...but we've got a better talent evaluator now.

and considering smitty is now a short term answer and we are abysmal beyond him, i'd say that WR is pretty close to being as big a need as OL.

smitty is on borrowed time and i don't want to see what the passing game looks like without him.

we don't need someone who can step right in and be the second coming of smitty, but we do need to make a real effort to try and improve the position so it can withstand losing him. sitting around and waiting for just the right guy isn't a viable solution, imo.

you can upgrade the OL all you want and give cam all the time in the world, but it's not going to make the WRs any more able to get open.

we have to do both. upgrade the OL and the WR corps.

I won't say close the door on Murphy, but if he finds more money elsewhere than we can comfortably afford in fitting with our cap, needs and overall plan, then so be it.

As far as I am concerned, last season was Louis Murphy's opportunity to set himself apart from the rest of our average roster (except 89, which should go without saying), but he didn't seize the bull by the horns and run with it. As such, he should be willing to take a pay cut and/or sign a short contract. He would basically have to start over again, proving himself to be more than just your average Joe at his position, which is something that he should be beyond at this point in his career (particularly with his size and speed).

smitty is on borrowed time and i don't want to see what the passing game looks like without him. Yea, and we never were able to take care of exploiting the double teams on him so i see your point for a WR

Oline is were the success of the offense lies and as we have seen it doesn't matter how great your receivers are or RB's it all starts on controlling the line of scrimmage....

we have to do both. upgrade the OL and the WR corps. So many needs so little money.

It'd be nice for just one time the offensive scheme would make the receiver but you godda be able to get open and have sticky hands...
