We are going to get raped once Cam's contract comes up...

There is a balance.. He is going to end up in the 18-20 mill per year. Team got off easy on the rookie contract ( thank you collective bargaining agreement), just pay the man. If done correctly with a large enough signing bonus it doesn't cripple our salary cap. Also considering a lot of our big name expensive contracts will be coming off the books it should be coming across at the perfect time. Plus Cam is worth far more to the franchise counting exposure, merchandising, etc... JR wins regardless.

Cam could be the first player to top $200 million in a deal, depending on how things fall. If we sign him to, say, a 10-year deal for the long haul it could easily wind up having a total value of over $200 million.

I doubt it. No way Cams agent lets him sign a 10 year deal. Why not? Because who knows how the QB salaries are going to go up. You sign a 5 or 6 year deal and come out on the other end at 29 years old and sign another huge contract at the top of whatever QB's are making in 2019 or 20.

I think Cam resigning here should go fairly smoothly. Although we haven't had much success just yet I think it's obvious to us and to Cam that the Panthers are trying to do everything they can to give Cam what he needs to succeed. I think a player like him appreciates that. Additionally I think Cam see's his legacy with Carolina. I think he's got a pride and vision for himself and that includes being Carolina's first premier QB to lead them to the promise land and win.

Plus Cam pimps the hell out of Carolina colors and he knows it.

Can you imagine the cap hit implication of that, since you can only spread signing bonus over 5 years.

Dallas

Yeah I hope I'm wrong but if I had to bet about Cam being a panther for the next decade or heading to a big market with a new contract .... Ehhh I don't know which one is the safer bet.

He's a superstar in frankly a shitty sports town. The ceiling is only so high here for an icon and entertainer.

I think Cam likes being in Carolina. It's not too far from his home and it has a similar feel. At this point I don't know why people are thinking that he is going to demand the kind of money that top-tier, Super Bowl winning champions deserve. He is going to have to raise his game. You don't dole out that kind of money based on potential. Those days are over (for now). Will he command a nice contract? Probably. But $20-$25 mil? Come on, people. We better have a Lombardi or be damned close to one. But, like I said, we are going to have to pay him a moderately hefty price if he even has moderate success, but that's what you do when you have a franchise QB. You can't have it both ways.

That would be incredibly painful to see him go to the team that I can't stand. Their fans are so obnoxious. If he came back here and helped them steal another one from us like they seem to do in the regular season. I would be seriously depressed, especially if we didn't have a better option than that for us at QB.

It wouldn't be hard to work with that. If you sign him to a huge contract but only guarantee 30 million of it, you have 6 million in cap space each year. The rest of that can be roster and option bonuses that when triggered count as signing bonuses and get pro-rated for the rest of the contract. They wouldn't all be guaranteed but some could be as long as it doesn't pump up the cap too much the first year or two. That is the thing, most huge contracts are cap friendly in the first or second year with larger cap hits down the road. The option is there to extend him a second time in a few years after that, if he is really producing, which is a restructure which moderates the big cap hit for a year or two after that. You can get quite a bit down the road before you have a absorb a huge hit which hopefully is offset by the increase in revenue by then.

I know if I was a star athlete I couldn't stand playing at a stadium like BofA that is constantly overtaken by the opposing teams fans. That would be enough to make me say fug off. I'd want to play in a town where the home fans dominate on game days. Charlotte doesn't even come close.
