Ramses Barden looking for new start. Martellus Bennett resolved to his fate

It's hard to argue Lafell's production against other team's "#2"s. Lafell is a true #2 for us. Most of those players you listed there come from teams with two comparable receivers at #1 and #2. We have a superstar (albeit an aging one) at #1 with no one really close to him. So of course the drop-off in production from Smith to Lafell is gonna be pretty substantial compared to these other teams with 2 comparable receivers that can split the targets.

this statement screams that the WR position needs to be upgraded. if your #2 cannot take over then he should not be a #2.

CarolinaPanthers8789 was the one saying how LaFell was one of the better WR2s in the league, which I thought was ludicrous. LaFell may be a true 2 for us, but that ain't sayin' much when you start looking at the 2s for other teams. And let's say that the 2s for these teams are not really 2s but 1s, 1 and 1/2s or whatever you want to call them, the fact remains that LaFell has yet to prove that he is on that level. Last year was his golden chance to do it, but here we go again in 2013 with some people making the same ol' tired arguments for LaFell (et. al) that were made before his "break out" year three.

In my opinion LaFell is a WR3 who can sometimes play up to the level of one of those quasi WR1s every once in a teal moon.

If Barden hadn't caught 9 passes against the Panthers not a single one of you would have ever heard of him. I have no problem with him being given a shot but let's be real here.

Even if that were true, what difference does that make? Not trying to be funny, but the fact is that anybody who is an NFL fanatic, but more specifically a serious fantasy football player had at least heard of Barden before he went off on the Panthers. Of course being the key ingredient to our ass whooping on TNF makes the guy hard to forget. Most people who aren't Panthers or Tigers fans can't tell you who LaFell is either, and even if they can they don't realize he's the Panthers WR2---the guy opposite of 89. Moreover, when is the last time that any of our current WRs (or wide-outs) other than 89 have had a game like Barden did on TNF? Try never!

Like I have said before in this thread, it's not like anyone expects Barden to magically become the mirror image of Megatron, but I don't think that it's too much of a stretch to think that he could rival any WR currently on this team right now that's not named Steve Smith. If that's a conviction of Richardson, Hurney, Fox, LaFell, Gettis, Pilares, and Edwards (and to a lesser extent the newer-comers, although Murphy has had chances in Oakland), then it is what it is.

He was a 3rd round pick. Any even moderately serious fan likely knows of any 3rd round pick. They even traded up for him, which makes him stick out even more.

    • First of all Sooners fan? Mods? Second if you think someone needs a specific reason to hate Texas you don’t watch real college football.
    • 100% even if rest of team is really talented if they march young out to be qb and he plays like he has for 90% of his starts the panthers have already lost doesnt even matter how good the rest of the team is or isnt and also makes it hard to even tell how good they are.  They need true competition for young this offseason.
    • It will be awesome to have an improved stadium to lose in I guess....   https://www.yahoo.com/news/panthers-file-rezoning-bank-america-111500840.html     The Carolina Panthers have taken another necessary step toward renovating their home of the present and future. Panthers Stadium, LLC, filed its rezoning site plan with the city of Charlotte on Monday, initiating an important — if mostly technical — step toward renovating Bank of America Stadium. The filings state that the rezoning relates “primarily to technical aspects associated with improvements to Bank of America Stadium,” and that the rezoning is required because “the current stadium zoning is out of date” for the team’s stadium renovation plans.   The planned stadium updates include new seats installed throughout the upper and lower bowls; stadium safety and security enhancements; a reimagined South Lawn Pavilion; upgraded restrooms; exterior enhancements (including LED video boards) and more. Planning for the stadium renovation project will continue through 2025, with construction starting in 2026 and the renovation’s conclusion in 2029, The Observer previously reported.
