Julius Peppers over Steve Smith? lmao

Peppers gets hate but his production is there...

The angry man attitude vs. the laid back approach comes into play in how he is viewed here....and Peppers dumping us (which was understandable).

Peppers not punching out 3 teammates and bringing drama easily could put him ahead slightly from the non Panther fans viewpoint

Panthers fans are seeing how much they overvalued Peppers while he was here now that he's on another team and still doesn't get elite tier recognition.

He's a talented player but his inconsistency, lack of explosiveness, and one dimensional ability as a pass rusher kept him from being elite.

Name an elite DE who is consistant? People wanted Peppers to be something no one is

Too bad he never reached his full potential. But I meat for this list. Also, how's he doing in Chi town? lol.

Peppers has the production....in CHi as well.

If Smitty dumped us....people would probably start bringing up he has scored more than 8 TDs once in his career and hit 8 only once. They also would then bring up the cheap shots, bs on the field and the fact he always had to be pampered

Smith was never busted for PEDs.

In an objective prospective, I'd take Smitty over Peppers (even with his anger issues) mainly because he was 10x more consistent. Julius was on cruise-control for half of his career at Carolina. In his prime, Steve was triple-teamed on several occasions and still managed to get open. Peppers would get double-teamed and, for the most part, that was that.

Overall, I'd rank Kris Jenkins higher than Julius Peppers. His impact was far greater.

Outside of one year, Peppers has been consistant. He might not of been the hands down best defensive player....but not meeting a fan expectation doesn't mean inconsistent.

Kris Jenkins at his prime I would agree....but he did that for a small window of time. Peppers sleep walks to 10 sacks and 5 FFs.....the type numbers generally celebrated. He does it every year.

Outside one year? Peppers remains inconsistent till this day. In fact, Melton helped Peppers reach 11.5 sacks this season. Without him, fans would have tore Peppers a new one after his up/down season. Julius is a talented DE but he is a tad overrated. He's the type of DE that'll have a 4-sack day one week but have a 1 tackle performance the following week. It's not just about failing to live up to expectations.

Jenkins' prime was cut short but during that time he was the type of player who deserved mega-contracts. There wasn't a game where he didn't collapse pockets, stuffed talented RBs and pressure QBs.

Then name 2 consistant elite DEs. The expectations and bar for Peppers simply has never been realistic.

It isn't like Smitty doesn't put up a 19 yard or 40 yard no TD game here or there.

Sam Mills is one of my favorite Panthers of all time. But he only played here for 3 years - his presence was much more about inspiration since he was in the twilight of his career at the beginning of the franchise.

Minter should definitely be on there.

more the reason for him to be there this early in our franchise history.

understandable.. But most Panther fans have seen Smitty almost win games and carry this team by himself as much as any single player ever could.. Forget those who are just mad because Peppers left us. I don't put much stock in extremist point of views anyway. I just don't think Peppers can compare to Smitty's importance on the field.

    • His o loaded with swift, dj, Keenan and Rome was inconsistent at best. The d was bad. And the game management was atrocious and lost them games.  He was terrible and made the team worse. I wish they kept him
    • That is my point.  I think teams make a huge mistake when they pay their decent to average QBs top QB money because they feel that they have to match the market or lose their investment--There is no way, for example, that Tua or Prescott or Murray should all be making more than Mahomes--I mean, Dak makes $15m per season more than Mahomes. People say, "Well, when its his turn...." But that is not how it should be--so my point was that Bryce can be doing mediocre to good enough in 2 years, but the way it is going, you have to pay him at the starting QB rate--currently $60m.  So even if you think he will continue to improve, at $60 m, he would eliminate any chance for a ring---so my view is, if he is not elite, you cut him.  So you draft QBs now and see what you can make of them.
    • With two 4ths and three 5ths I’m hoping we can kill it on adding depth. Take a gamble with the two 7ths.  First 3 picks id love to address the defense. I expect Tuttle, Robinson, and Jewell to all be on the 2025 roster but not after that. Be a good time to add depth and let them develop a year.
