lol. I'm just trying to understand where my team is on the cap. No need to get offended.

Joe Person@josephperson

Twitter has created a generation of amateur and armchair capologists. Among other things

LOL he mad. At no time was I rude about anything...I'm not trying to be an "armchair capologist" wither. But 6.6-2.5 doesn't equal 3.5.

This is what I was telling you earlier Joe Person is a moron.... lol I would just wait until the team releases the official cap.

The reason for the difference is that Sport trac is off on a few contracts and some signing bonuses here and there. The biggest one is Thomas Davis who will probably actually make closer to 4.2 Million this season then the 3.2 they have listed as his cap hit.

The Panther's started this off season at around 15-16 Million over the 120.9 cap number. Add in the roll over and it put the panther's roughly between 12-13 Million over the cap. Add in the restructures and such and you'll get a number around 3.5-4 million over the cap right now.

He might have had more then I knew of, which is completely possible since I don't work for the Panthers. I know he had play time incentives and option bonuses and such built into his contract. He's basically still making the same amount he was before his restructure, it's just done completely different now

Just a note though, that Sport trac website is off on quite a few contracts just from glancing through it. Nothing major, but 100k here, 500k there and it adds up quick..

If you remove the extra 500k bump I put into my numbers, then I've got the panther's at 3.548 over the cap. I actually might have added to much into my bump up for incentives for players on the team.

So 3.548 seems about right and I'd suspect that's about what Person has the team at right now.

click on the contact us thing and they will fix any discrepancies within minutes. I told them about Nakumara's contract and they fixed it immediately.

here's the problem with the conflicting TD numbers...

The Panthers chose not to exercise an $8 million option bonus that was due this week. The bonus was put in as a safeguard when Davis signed a new contract last summer. He suffered his third injury early last season.

Davis’ cap figure for 2012 is now a comfortable $2.1 million. In addition to not getting the bonus, Davis took a cut in base salary from $2.25 million to $700,000 for this season.

But Davis can recoup some of the money later in the contract that runs through 2015. He has a $500,000 option bonus in 2013, and a $2.5 million second option in 2014. His new base salaries rise steadily each season. If he’s still with the team in 2015, his base salary will be $7.25 million.

http://espn.go.com/b...g-with-panthers

here's what spotrac has for his cap numbers

2013

Base Salary $2,000,000

S. Bonus $1,400,000

Misc. Bonus $866,666

Cap Hit $4,266,666

and now overthecap

2013

Base Salary: $1,500,000

Prorated Bonus: $1,566,666

Roster Bonus: $2,812,500

Workout Bonus: $500,000

Other Bonus: $450,000

Cap Number: $6,829,166

Dead Money: $4,699,998

Cap Savings: $2,129,168

what's interesting is that overthecap doesn't have that roster bonus for any other year. according to Yas, TD waived that roster bonus. now was it for just last year, or all together? that's the issue.

the way it looks to me is that the roster bonus was waived altogether and overthecap and person may be overlooking that.

I'm taking it all with a grain of salt at this point. I'm sceptic of any number that's not from an official with the team but I have a feeling we are close to cap now.

When his deal was re worked the last time, his 8 million option bonus was split into three option bonuses due the next three seasons. 500k in 2013, 2.5 million in 2014 and finally 5 million in 2015.. The rest of his money was put behind incentives based on playing time.
