Steve Smith picks Sheldon Richardson?.......

Well, that's kind of my point. Dwan is a great pass rusher, so drafting another "explosive" UT would be kind of redundant as they are typically geared more towards pass rushing. I'd prefer to sign a guy who is already proven in both in the pass and running game to complement Dwan rather than draft a clone.

Maybe they want a younger UT and will look at FA for a older NT.

IMO, we could use a younger DT to complimeht Dwan. But this year, unless you get lucky, is a bad year for that true playmaking DT. I don't like spending a first on potential. Because I want my first pick to produce from day one. And in this draft, at our position, I just don't see it happening this year.

Now in the second round if the BPA is a DT I may take him. But I don't feel DT can be as big of an IMPACT player as some other positions. True playmaking DTs are few and far between, and unfortunately we ain't gonna fix it in the draft this year.

So I would keep my options open, do my due diligence, and go BPA. You can never have enough talent/playmakers on your team. There IS talent in this draft. And there are plenty of players that can help us improve the team. I just don't see us being able to grab that elite type DT in this years draft.

Most of the playmakers this year are on the offensive side of the ball. Whether that be WR or Oline either one could help us. I guess I am still old school. When there are no sure fire playmakers available to you, you grab the best Olineman left. So I am looking forward with excitement for how this is going to play out.

Do we gamble with a potential playmaker, or do we play it safe with the best Olineman available?

I still think Hardy will make a great UT on running downs. I'm willing to bet close to half his sacks came from the inside anyways.

Gotta agree with this. Hardy can be effective inside or out. And Alexander to a somewhat lesser extent. (His development is on my radar because his versatilty is important. If he can grow and improve, it makes us better.) And maybe not as an every down DT, because you would lose his versatility.

But yea, Alexander, Hardy, Dwan, and CJ can get after the QB.

I have to disagree. This is probably the best DT class I've ever seen.

Not disagreeing with the amount of talent in this class. I just don't happen to believe that at where we pick, there will be a sure fire starter left. Unless we get lucky. Which is what I stated.

I don't see us using our first round pick on potential. Which is what you would be doing if you don't get one of the top two DTs. There just isn't a top 14 pick worthy DT. Lots of late first early second talent. But

I want a first day starter, with playmaking ability. Not convinced that can happen with this years crop.

Yeah I don't know what the fug he was talking about. Then the playmakers are all offensive player (OL WR) thing. I can see OL but there are only 2-3 WR rated to go in the 1st round and none in the top 10.

What I am saying, and I guess not very well, is that this draft is top heavy. And from where we pick, at 14, we may have to get lucky to get that first day starting DT with playmaking ability. DE has more playmakers than DT. WR has more playmakers than DT. LT is a wash. We are in the gray area. The only way we are getting a top talent player is if he falls.

There is plenty of talent this year. But once you get out of the top 8-9 it levels off quickly. I guess because there are precious few stars this year. It makes the class, as a whole, somehow look less appealling.

I just happen to want a first day playmaker with my first two picks. And I don't see that type player coming from the DT class this year.

I honestly think that Star (newly possible at our pick) or Hankins (likely available when we pick) are almost guaranteed to come in and start for us right away and make a BIG impact. I think to a lesser extent the same possibility exists with Richardson or J. Williams and to an even lesser extent it's possible Floyd, B. Williams or S. Williams would start for us right away and make an impact. The last three I'd consider in the 2nd if we didn't take a DT in the 1st (yea I know Floyd will probably be gone, but I wouldn't consider him in the 1st if I were GM...)

In most rankings there are 3 DT rated higher then any WR. And There are 6-7 that could go in the 1st round with only 3 WR rated to do that.

What are you talking about?
