So it's the offseason - Is Jimmy Clausen's career salvageable?

I don't really understand the hate for hepcat, I don't see you guys starting amazing threads these days. Anyways Clausen has pretty much zero arm strength so a West Coast offense would suit him better (ironic because I think he played a pro-style in college), but the real problem with Clausen is that he was thrown into the fire so early and so unprepared he has trouble maintaining composure in the pocket. Further worsening the issue, he seems to have zero sense of the impending sack he inevitably always ends up taking.

It would take a lot of coaching to undo the damage done to him. You know what team might take a flier on him, however, is the Chiefs, even if they get Alex Smith. If one man can salvage his career I trust Andy Reid.

Definitely Arizona, and maybe any of the others mentioned. He played in Carolina with a lame duck head coach, only one experienced receiver, no real pass catching threat at tight end, and a historically bad OC. Small wonder he struggled, huh? Yes, he looked bad and at times he looked like the main problem, but there was a lot more going on behind the teams losses than a scared rookie QB.

If he's spent the past couple of years being productive in the film room, learning defenses, and training like he expects to be a starter someday, there's no reason to think he can't, if he's in the right situation (which will never be Carolina). But if he's been content to hold a clipboard, that's all he'll ever do.

First why would I care. Like so many other forgotten players, who have been drafted, Clausen has shown me nothing. People like Arian Foster went undrafted and have made several pro-bowls. I have no love for Clausen like I have no love for The Golden Calf of Bristol. The quicker both are shown the door the better.

and also, Clausen was NOT in a horrible situation.

Good OL, Good RBs, Good #1 WR, Good D.....THAT isn't horrible.

Fox also is great at minimizing what a QB has to do and letting him have success. Clasuen was just so bad he sabatoged it all.

Lame duck head coach horrible offensive coordinator, mediocre defense VERY BEAT up offensive line.

And a terrible defense that was 25th in points allowed a game at 26!

I think Clausen is a horrible bust and is un-salvageable but lets not act like he had a great team around him.

I do understand the hate - it comes from spending too much time on an internet forum talking about a bunch of big sweaty dudes romping around on a grassy field chasing an oddly shaped leather ball around, like it's some really important sh!t. Unfortunately some people's lives are really sad, and they have no where else to vent their life frustration. I'm not offended or that concerned about it.

Anyways, I think a place like KC with Andy Reid would be a good place for Clausen. Reid was able to drag the Eagles to the playoffs with a myriad of backups, and I think his offense would work for him. But there are better and cheaper options out there, that aren't damaged goods.

I made this thread because, like others have said, Clausen was put in a really bad spot in 2010, and I think he'd have a chance at turning his career around if he was in a better situation. We can all agree that he's not the answer as a backup QB in Carolina. A guy like Derek Anderson was perfect, but it's unlikely he returns so they'll have to figure something else out.

We haven't had a good O-line in years, but please continue.
