I would love to have him here, but I think Rivera was referring to signing a receiver in general. Either way the position needs to be addressed this season. Most of the media thinks Miami will sign Wallace to a big contract, which I don't understand considering they not long ago traded away Brandon Marshall for peanuts.

If we're keeping the backfield intact, it suggests that we're "all in" on offense this year. That suggests that any FA moves for instant production would come on this side of the ball. IMO our 1st round pick could be an right OT who could move left in a couple of years and replace Gross. I believe that they have made their analysis and have decided that we need to concentrate on scoring the first 3 quarters and running out the clock in the fourth. Winning with defense will take a few more years.

I don't think keeping the backfield intact suggests we are all in on offense this year.

I think improving the OL and Cam's recieving targets would suggest that.

I want Wallace but I want him to come at average price and I also want to draft a WR with a 4th this year and top pick next year. Hurney has put off WR too long and we need not just an instant contender like wallace but a future #1/competition in the draft. Unless we get a freak with a high pick, which means losing again (or trading away future, ex. JJ - don't see Dave doing this), a WR is going to take time. You'll need competition, I don't see Wallace as a #1 but he is closer than anyone else bsides smitty on our team and he will add competition. What competition does a high pick WR really have here and do we really want to tank another season to take one who does not need any?. Decent players that we pick up however will not want 1 year deals meaning Gettleman has to think these guys will work out for more than one year, possibly under a new coach.

Makes you wonder who will influence picks/FA more Dave or Ron?

Not what I meant, Hurney was a failure at drafting WRs and he did try. Never drafted one in the first or got one in FA besides KJ though. When I said put off, I don't really remember him ever drafting a WR with #1 talent. I think he failed at picking WRs as much as he just neglected the position in general. Awful situation all around.

I think he was referring to a quality #1, someone who could take over for Steve when the times comes.

Depending on how hew the contract is designed (performance based loaded) we may have a chance. He is a touchdown scorer, he is a gameplan changer (more room to run) He will attract every teams best DB and Smitty could have a monster year again. He loves to CATCH the ball unlike some WRs we have. He would instantly change the look of our offense.

I think the Marshall exit was more about off field and the combo of a new regime. As for Wallace, Miami might be the favorite, but I wouldn't count out that new Patriot cap space being used to take a stab

Because Steve Smith was drafted in the first? You guys are to quick to judge. Carolina has a nice crew of young WR to groom. Lafell is coming along. Joe Adams will be a beast.
