Burning it all down

So let's suppose the team were to consider just dumping every bad contract Marty Hurney put on the books and dealing with a crappy season in order to get a fresh start the following season.

To be clear, this is not gonna happen because this is a "make or break" season for Rivera. He'd be hamstrung by such an action and I see pretty much no chance they'll do that to him.

But if it were an option, would you be in favor of it?

Cap and salaries all thrown out the window?

Outside of CJ.....yeah, the "core" Marty paid isn't what our core is going forward.

His offense was built around 2 RBs, D around Beason/Anderson/Godfrey/CJ.

Cam is the O, Luke the D....CJ big picture is the only part of Hurney's big payday core that is a must have

I dont see next season the Panthers being over .500 at its finish.

So a few wins either way........

My main concern with the release of say DWill, Stewart, Beason, Gross etc is the long term effect on Cam.

Blow up the bad contracts and spend half the draft on the Oline might do.

Really though we've done this various ways through Hurney's incompetence.

The Julius Peppers Franchise Tag fiasco where Pep didn't sign the massive FT contracts until July essentially handcuffed the Panthers from doing anything for 2 years.

Then you have the 2010 season puge where the owner thought he was going to be more clever than anyone else and prepare for the Lockout, product on the field and the fans be damned.

So I guess i'm saying it wouldn't look much different than what the Panthers have been doing.

Except all this shyt would be in the rear view mirror.

Worth remembering: It's been written that some of these contracts are set to hurt us next year just as bad or worse than this year.

2014 Cap Hits

Marty's payday bunch

Godfrey - 7.1 million

DeAngelo - 9.1 million

Big Money - 15 million

Beason - 10.75 million

Anderson - 5.4 million

Stewart - 6 million (prior to his restructure but I don't think it changes much)

They are all set to hurt us worse

Already did that the year before the lockout.

Not for the same reason, though. Not quite.

Especially sad to remember though that this was done just a short time ago. We were indeed set to have a new dawn, and in less than two years the whole thing was pissed away by a guy who now doesn't work here anymore

JR needs to win now. He had enough time to plan for hte lockout and fug the Panthers. We just had one of the lowest caps in the NFL and JR incompetence by putting the wrong people in place has cost us...again. JR can't just keep starting over. Even still he somehow finds love among his fans, another 'do over' is getting a bit rediculous don't you guys think? How many do overs until people realize the problem sits at the TOP. No amount of do overs will fix the huge issue at the head. In the mean time we have to deal with it and hope JR doesn't need another 09 and 10 season.

He just hired a new GM...to fix it all. That screams a do over sooner or later. Rearanging Marty's guys isn't the most likely outcome.

Biggest mistake JR made was not keeping Fox/Hunrey a package deal. New GM when Fox was fired would have started gutting Marty/Fox guys for his own players and for his new coach.

We are still plaqued by the Fox era
