Connor Vernon

Vernon is a good player who played in pro-ready system, meaning that, he's going to be able to come in and contribute right away because he knows NFL routes, progressions, reads, etc.

However, he's going to need to bulk up.

He's not fast enough to play the speedy type of slot receiver people are thinking he could be able to play. That's just not his game. He's going to be more of a "sit in a zone and catch a pass for 7 yards" type player. In which case, he's going to need to bulk up. He could take those hits (or make guys miss) playing against the ACC teams of the world, but in the NFL, he isn't going to be able to do that for long.

did he return kicks or punts for Duke, also I did feel like whenever I watched Duke play this guy always stepped up to make the play when it mattered- which in my opinion means a LOT

also yea I was wondering if he was going to need to add weight- but the same could be said for a lot of players.

Thanks for the response.

maybe but ill remind you welker ran a 4.6.......i think it depends on if vernon is a great route runner and quick in small burst rather than deep long speed.....maybe im wrong though.....

If some team drafts this guy before round 4, they're idiots.

Vernon is slow and not athletic. This guy COULD find a niche with a team as, like, a 5th or 6th option that can just run underneaths or sit in a zone and wait.

Also, any duke "fans" who think they are qualified to make a fair assessment on Vernon are liars. I can assure you they've only watched two Duke football games in the past 10 years. The Carolina game this year and the Bowl game this year as well.

No, you're right. But Welker isn't the type of slot receiver I was referring too when I said "speedy". Welker is the type of slot receiver that sits down in a zone and catches the short passes, but also has the know-how to get open downfield.

But, Welker also is more of a bulky guy that Vernon, and can take on the linerbackers.

Also care to wager a guess as to which university has more nfl hall of famers? Ill give you a hint, it aint the heels.

(I hate to derail this thread any more than what it is but...) Fair enough, but when ever UNC fans brings up championships from later dates you bring out the "How many of those championships did you see??" so did you watch Sonny Jurgenson play QB in 1956? or George McAfee run the ball in 39? or what about Ace Parker in 36? Because I can go ahead and tell you I didn't get the chance to watch Lawrence Taylor play... Just had to throw a little bit of your criticism your way ;) lol

I understand though if I was a Duke fan I'd be irritated with Mr. TD post as well

And for the record I think Vernon will be a great slot guy in the NFL... Brandon Stokley like

Who the fu*k is Sonny Jurgensen?

Duke football had a renaissance last year after barely beating Carolina for the first time in a decade excited a lot of their basketball fans. A lot of their "fans" probably didnt realize they had a FB team until after that game. That was the biggest game in the the past 30 years there. Until the Belk Bowl this year against Cincinnati (lol). How'd that work out? CHOKE

Like I said though, the Duke basketball fans will have their Notre Dame, South Carolina, FSU, or Ohio State football jerseys out by week 4 this year.

How sweet it is!

Yeah I don't ever want to hear you get on UNC fans when they bring up a little nostalgia.

I just looked at the Duke players in the NFL HOF (I've been there twice in the past 4 years BTW) and I've never heard of these guys. Their induction ceremony pictures are in black&white. LOL.

You know who YOU have heard of though?

Lawrence Taylor. LT. Arguably the greatest defensive player in NFL history.

PS: Jeff Saturday (UNC) will be in there in 5 years.

App State is more relevant than Duke in college FB.
