What are your thoughts on him?

I'd love to take a flyer on him in the 4th round (doubt he lasts that long). He has EXCELLENT hands and his measurables are solid (~ 6'0, 202lbs, 4.7 ) I think he would fit great in our offense and be a very good possession receiver. He runs routes cleanly, has no fear across the middle, and catches with his hands, not his body. If we don't address WR in the 1st or 2nd round, I hope we take him.

i like him as a slot wr that could move the chains like welker abit.

i think he is a slot guy at best but he might be solid...dont know if he will be as good as welker.

so if the panthers got two wr one deep threat early...i would be fine....

but i can already hear the rants about not taking austin, the best slot wr in the draft, to most people.

I'd love him, but I don't see him lasting until the 4th.

To be honest, as I watch the combine I really want 2 WR's. There is just so much talent there and I don't know that a BPA philosophy wouldn't take us in that direction anyway.

I want a big burner, a true number 1 to replace Smith, then I want a quick, slot type to compliment the outside speed and Olsen.

Hes more of a chain mover, not a lot of moves in the open field. However hes great at finding holes and getting open. He catches just about everything thrown his way. his 40 was faster then I thought. Like you guys said hes a fearless wr. Id be cool in the 4th. More late career ricky prohel then wes welker imo.

if he is there in the 4th I would take him, doubt he lasts----any duke fans out there want to comment how they think his game will transition to the pros

Vernon is a good player who played in pro-ready system, meaning that, he's going to be able to come in and contribute right away because he knows NFL routes, progressions, reads, etc.

However, he's going to need to bulk up.

He's not fast enough to play the speedy type of slot receiver people are thinking he could be able to play. That's just not his game. He's going to be more of a "sit in a zone and catch a pass for 7 yards" type player. In which case, he's going to need to bulk up. He could take those hits (or make guys miss) playing against the ACC teams of the world, but in the NFL, he isn't going to be able to do that for long.

    • Karlaftis and Danna have been pretty inconsistent so teams have been doubling Jones and able to contain their pass rush.   But the good thing is that yesterday, we schemed well against Steve Spags Defense, Canales married the surrounding personnel with his QB through play designs within his comfort zone and was able to get downfield at will.  He was able to execute higher difficulty throws and look a lot more comfortable.  It tells me that Canales has a good system in mind, and had an edge gameplanning wise against Spagnuolo - which is nice to see.  It's a bit to see-saw at times with either going way too pass heavy or way too run heavy, but I think he's finding out what works.  It takes time to have it come together, and sure, I could see regression happen against a better front-7, but this was good for the entire system gelling.
    • This was evident first two weeks of season. I don’t see any issues with physical tools since he came back. I think he is a player that must play with confidence to overcome those size limitations and he’s doing that.
    • Still 3-10 on passes over 15 yards.  At least he's not scared to merely attempt them anymore.  Where I see improvement is the 10-15 yard range.  He was 6-6.  Bryce of old was scatter shot on anything beyond 10 yards and the further out, the worse the accuracy.
