ha.

talk about reaching and making mountains out of molehills.

this whole write up is based on one comment gettleman made a couple days ago when he said he doesn't know why they shouldn't be able to keep both. he didn't say anything about intention. he said decisions have to be made, but he didn't see why they wouldn't be able to make it work.

i do think the panthers would like to keep him, but those very few words gettleman spoke doesn't carry the meaning joe thinks it does.

joe is doing his best yas and florio impression throwing poo at the wall and seeing if it sticks.

Why can't you comprehend that not matter how you shake a stick at it, the cost of cutting him is 9.6 million.Spread it over 1 or 2 years and its still 9.6 million. We can keep him for 8.2 million and cut him next year and save money without carrying over dead money into the future.

Making him a June 1st cut saves money in 2013 and 2014.

Would give us more room to bring in a body that plays every down in a position of need.

Hurney screwed us so nothing is ideal. If all we do is cut Gamble....Hurney could of and would have done that. The hiring of Gettlemen very easily could of been Richardson simply bringing in the same old same old. Gettlemen needs to do something besides just land a 1st round draft pick.....his brilliance shouldn't be celebrated yet....

He does also cite a "league source" (probably DeAngelo's agent).

Still, on the whole it's speculation, and you always have to be careful about taking reporter speculation as gospel.

2013 Cap hits

Cam+ Stewart+ Tolbert = roughly 11 mill

Rivera's 2nd favorite RB = 8 mill

Yeah, keeping Williams and not asking him to rip up his deal or be cut makes tons of sense.

if we keep williams, it has to be done.

I'm sure that there's some way it could be worked out so that williams is kept without much work on his contract, but it would bite us in the butt elsewhere. mathematics can not be defied. we have a cap and to keep him, esp. with that contract means sacrifices to other positions would have to be made and you have to ask...is it worth it to keep him? i say no...not at that price and with his reduced role and the other options available.

he is just too easily and cheaply replaceable.

CRA your missing the point completely.

Heres your options in their simplest form.

A. Cut him now and eat the 1.6 million and be done with it.

B. Cut him a June 1st cut and save 3.8 million this year but carry over 4.6 million in dead money next year.(this is stealing from paul(2014 cap) to pay peter(2013 cap).

C.Cut him next year as a non june 1st cut and be done with it completey and still save 3.8 million in 14.

D. Magically find a way to restructure him in spite of the immense difficulties because of the signing bonus Hurney gave him and keep him for another 2-3 years at a smaller cap hit.

B. Create some pretty significant cap space in 2013 AND 2014.

Use the room to get someone who can start at a real area of need. OL, DT, S, CB for example.....

Point is Williams' role is too small for his cap hitS. It cost us at other spots. We don't want Nakamura's starting in order to have great RB depth.

3/5 of our OL takes up the cap space of Williams' lunch money. It just is a bad deal for us.

B creates 4.6 million dead money in 14, thats 800k more than we are saving in 13. So have the cap room now and fug ourselves in the future is what you wanna do.

Pay him 9.6 million over the next 2 years(4.8 million per year in 13 and 14) to never play another down for us

If we are going the June 1st route to save money then its a million times better to do it next year.

The option I prefer

If we cut him in 14 we save 6 million in 14 and 7 million in 15. Thats 21 million in savings . 11.5 million per year savings in 2 years

The option you prefer

If we cut him now we save 3.8 million in 13 and 4.6 million in 14 and 10.2 million in 15 thats 18.6 million savings over 3 years. 6.2 million per year savings over 3 years

tl; dr save 21 million in cap hits thru 15 and get to keep him for 13. or save 18.6 million in cap hits through 2015 and he never plays another down.
