Jake Delhomme's next starting QB job...

I'd love to hear what fans of other organizations would say to the same question. Let's face it, the QB position is a target for criticism when things aren't going right. Personally, I think you could plug him in to at least 10 teams and have a short term performance upgrade. The wildcard is the leadership quotient. He has that ability and it's not something you see everyday.

I don't necessarily disagree with any of that, but on the flip side, I don't think the fans of any of those 10 teams would be excited about Jake, and if he was currently the starter they'd most likely have concerns. The "wildcard" he's developed here wouldn't necessarily translate.

Jake has done well for Carolina, no disputing the best Panthers QB of all time, but IMO it's a unique situation. For the most part it's been thunder in a bottle, Jake and Smitty go together like cocaine and waffles. Yes Jake has done it w/o Steve, and when on Jake can be very good.

However taking a step back, Jake is an average QB that fit's Fox's scheme. I'm not categorizing him, but there have been guys before just like that, one year wonders, or system guys that can only thrive in a limited role. They aren't "franchise" QB's, and not a marketable commodity.

I totally agree that Jake would fail to fire up a fanbase. My "wildcard" comment spoke more to his ability to lead a team on a level that statistics can't measure or fans are able to appreciate more than his "intangibles".

IMO his "intangibles" are debatable, actually there are some in the league that would dispute what he brings to the table leadership wise.

I realize what he brings to the Panthers table, but that same "firery" attitude doesn't necessarily play in (insert city here).

If not for his tenure, and the magic of 03 he wouldn't necessarily get away with that "fire", on a team with vets. He's made his bones with the Cat's, he's earned a pass with a flutter ball here or there.

Jake has grown up with the vocal members of his team and his HC, he's entrenched as the Panthers QB. IMO he'd have a very hard time fitting in elsewhere if the "intangibles" are all he has to hang his hat on.

    • It looked like a pretty bad hamstring injury too. I am not completely sure we see him the rest of the way
    • Even if they win it all and we have the #1 pick, it would still be about 10 picks because of the compensatory picks But it still was a terrible trade, just sayin, it’s probably going to end up about a dozen or so picks better, not that it means anything at that point in the draft anyways.
