Panther draft

MHS831

Recommended Posts

1. C. Patterson, WR

2. Logan Ryan, CB

4. D. Quesenberry, T

5. Jordan Mills, G/T

6. J. Boyd, DT

The logic: Considering most would agree that our biggest weaknesses are DT and OL, and considering Gettlemen quoted Coughlin by referring to the need for "big men," this draft might surprise.

1. Patterson makes Cam and Steve Smith better. Eventual #1 WR. With Patterson, Smith, Lafell, Gettis, and Adams, the WR corps has potential to be as good as any in the NFL.

2. Ryan is a solid CB who would start as the #1 CB. While he may not be as good as Gamble in coverage, he is a better tackler and is better in press man. Besides, Gamble didn't even play much last season, so we are better with Ryan/Thomas than we were with Norman/Thomas.

4. Quessenberry is a bit light (290-295), but he is fundamentally sound and has long arms. If he is available in the fourth, grab him. He upgrades RT right now and eventually becomes the LT. He is a quality player.

5. Mills is a player who can play T or G, but I like his potential as a solid RG. Maybe not this season, but by 2014, this guy could start for us until 2024.

6. Boyd is lean and fast, a second-team All SEC selection, He has upside, and would learn from Dwan Edwards (assuming he is re-signed). He could rotate this season, start in 2014.

Really like this draft......Not a fan of Logan Ryan

Thanks---Ryan has grown on me--I prefer Trufant, Rhodes, Poyer, Milliner, Banks--just think they will be gone. By the way, I have read some say that Ryan is not that good--what is the story? Speed?

I also think Quessenberry, Mills, and Boyd will be gone by their respective rounds-the combine could change things.

Boyd in the sixth could be a Hardy-type sixth round selection.

Just from what I have seen out of Ryan he seems like a good football player, but it is recovery speed with him that I worry about, he is not a sudden athlete. So I am afraid that if a big guy like Julio or Roddy overpowers him on the jam, he will be toasted and never catch up. Boyd I have rated higher than most, if you go back and watch the line play at the senior bowl, he was solid. Boyd and Travis Bond, the big guard from UNC are two guys that I view as mid round prospects that are thought of as late rounders by the masses.

You described why Josh Norman could not stop the bears, and why he was benched. I will watch his hips and speed at Combine.

Was Boyd at the Senior Bowl? I think he was at the all star game the week before. I lke him. Glad you mentioned Bond. I was not sure about him--thought he was better than a late rounder. COuld be a value

This seems to be a refreshing change to most so I applaud the thought process. That said, I really don't like this draft. I think Patterson will be great, if not elite. Eventually. I agree the CB will be solid but I dont feel like this would help us out. Not sure how much pull Rivera has but I think if he has a say we draft players we can plug in right away.

Just signing Dwan isn't enough. Hopefully the team isn't thinking like that.

1. Dude is 32.

2. Stats say we still didn't stop the run last year so just signing him back isn't enough.

I do not think that Dwan is enough either. However, I know this:

1. They like Chandler

2. Dwan got sacks--really for the first time in his career.

3. Dwan sucked vs. the run.

4. I have a feeling the contract was a lot lower, a lot shorter than what he wants. I am guessing a one to two year deal for about a million per. He made $4 million in 2012.

If they upgrade at NT in a big way, will they upgrade at under tackle this year?

I think Gettlemen is simply making sure we can go with what we have at each position going into the draft. He just got Nakamura to reduce his contract to that of a special teamer, which is good for depth. Maybe offering a 1-year deal to a 33-year old DT who just had his best season in terms of sacks is a good idea, knowing that the plan is to make him depth or to hold down the fort for a year before getting a stud. We cannot put a star player at every position of need, so I expect Gettlemen to use what little room he has to solidfy depth at CB, DT, and G.

He has a tough job and I love the things he is saying so far. I think Gettlemen is going to be great, but am trying to "wait and see."

    • Heels let another team go up 20 on them but this time they complete the comeback. HD never seems to have his team ready but he makes great halftime adjustments. Powell played the majority of the second half and his defense was the difference along with his big three pointer to give the Heels the lead for good. Trimble and Davis were also spectacular. Carolina can’t let Auburn get out to a 20 point lead though, they won’t be able to come back from that.
    • I don't think there is much of a chance we go wr in the first round.  If Young continues to play fairly well, our choice will likely dl, lb, or maybe a slight chance at ol.
