Doing some scary movie watching

Finally caught "Event Horizon" with Laurence Fishburne and Sam Neill tonight. Been meaning to for a while but hadn't done so till now.

One or two moments of 'huh' and a ridiculously stereotyped black guy as a minor character, but overall a very solid flick. Will probably buy it at some point (taped it off HDNet last night on my DVR).

To those on here who previously recommended this as a good scary movie, thanks. You were very right.

watched Slither again the other night... which is great and disgusting... also The Host is amazing if you aren't a baby about subtitles.

It was pretty good. Horror movies in which characters find footage of something - and leads to the story is always creepy (if done right).

If you like found footage horror, check out V/H/S. it's on Netflix and at redbox right now. I'm a big horror movie fan and really liked it.

It's an anthology so there are about 5 or 6 short films in the movie. The premise is these guys break into a creepy house and find all these old VHS tapes. On each tape is some really weird and scary stuff. Each tape was made by a different director so they each have their own style. Most of them are done very well and add a unique spin to the cliched found footage genre. I would definitely recommend giving it a watch.

Also, a sequel premiered at movie festivals last year and is supposedly way better than this one. I can't wait to see it.

A good Throwback-Style Horror Movie that was on Netflix streaming is Trick or Treat(not the one with Alice Cooper) has a lot of Tales from the darkside type story telling with decent actors in it.

Most horror movies are dissapointing so Im impressed by the unapologetic hard R Evil Dead remake.

The Strangers was good if you have not seen it and the first half of Insidious. The Possession (Sam Rami produced)was decent but has similar girl possessed type stuff..just well executed.

Ha yeah I watched Troll Hunter at a film festival here in Winston-Salem a couple of years ago. Great movie. Hilarious.

It got 4 stars on Netflix and I was like REALLY?! And it was damn good..

"Troll Hunter" was fuggin' amazing! I thought it would be a joke, but it's one of the best movies I've seen on Netflix. As far as horror, I have not felt my heart race in any horror movie in recent memory than I did during that first scene with the three-headed troll in the woods. They did a great job with the found footage style so that there is no obvious, "that guy's gonne be the first to die" character. They all seem vulnerable. It was also at turns hilariously funny. I could go on and on about it, but I'll leave it at it's absolutely worth the watch.

Also, in the foreign-Netflix-pseudo-horror genre, I'd highly recommend the Swedish "Let the Right one in." It's a terrifying, painful and beautiful movie.

Well yeah its a classic.. Redone in english as Let Me In... A little more sensationlized than the nuanced Swedish version.. Suprisingly well cast however.

If you are ever in the mood to watch a really fugged up movie that is very well made, I suggest "Antichrist" starring Willem Dafoe. It is currently on Netflix.

It is a really beautifully shot movie with brilliant acting throughout. It's basically about a married couple that, after the death of their baby son and subsequent mental breakdown, retreat to a cabin in the woods. Dafoe plays the husband who is a therapist. He believes he can help his wife who is slowly losing her mind.

The film has some very graphic violence and sex scenes. It is not for the faint of heart. On the surface it might seem like a film made to only shock people, but on a deeper level I think it says a lot about mental health. And it also happens to have some of the best cinematography I can remember.

I wouldn't recommend Anti-Christ at all. I hated it and don't see how anyone could like it. The entire movie was nothing but gross out shots. I really didn't care for V/H/S either. I liked the first segment but after that it was just kind of meh. Trick r' Treat though, is amazing.

Sometimes I have no clue how Netflix comes up with some of the categories that it recommends. I'm pretty sure "Critically-acclaimed Quirky Independent Dark Comedies Based on A True Story with a Subtle Undertone" was close to one of them.

I loved Trik'R'Treat too btw. I remember how long it took to get released. I watch it every Halloween since I got the Blu-Ray.

I get it is not for everyone. Heck it's probabyl not for 90% of the general viewing population. It's a fugged up movie and will make you feel weird after watching. Immediately after watching it I actually texted a friend and said "WHATEVER YOU DO DON'T WATCH ANTICHRIST." And I meant it, he would probably hate the movie.

But it's far from shock for shocks sake, like for example Human Centipede 2.
