If The Dolphins Grab Mike Wallace...

very much in agreement. its not a luxury pick at all.

It baffles me how people say o we can pick up a WR in the second or trade back get a 3rd round pick and use it to take a WR.

We are one Steve Smith injury/retirement away from being the worse offense in the league. We are suppose to depend on Lafell and AE? Keep thinking WR isn't a big need. The reason why the o line looked so bad is because the wrs can't get separation.

Sure Cam forced some throws but go back and watch and it was because nobody was open and he tried to make a play. Too many times Cam looks down the field and nobody is open because smitty has 3 people on him and Lafell can't beat single coverage.

I do think S is a big need. I'm not sure the talent is there for us to draft one high this year. I'm warming to the idea of Vaccaro in the first but I'm still not convinced he's a good enough S to warrant a top 16 pick, when Safeties rarely go that high.

Vaccaro has a lot of buzz aroun him, some are saying top 5 (Doubt it) so the top 15 is a high spot for him, he is good, fast, intelligent saftey and would be a great playmaker for our secondary. In all honesty I like him more than I ever liked Barron.

Even Julio Jones didn't come in and make an immediate impact albeit he had some injuries now he is probably the best young WR in the game. Problem is we need immediate impact help, like Kuechly this year. Cam the year before.

I'm opposed going WR in the first round, Id have to say right now I'm on the Dee Milliner train if we stay at 14

Uh, who said Julio wasn't a huge impact for the team his rookie season? He WAS a paly maker the first foot he set on the field.

I don't get it

We need immediate impact, but you're against WR 1st round

To me all of the oline probably will be gone by the time we pick, which is why I made this thread

It's a popular opinion (one that I share) that there's not much separating the top 7 or so WRs. So that's why many of us are all for getting a WR in the 2nd but not as ecstatic about one in the first. They all seem like late first/early second round picks and one or two of them are bound to be available when we pick in the 2nd. We can spend a 2nd and get a guy not much (if any) worse than who we coulda got in the 1st. Whatever happens to Smitty, whether we get Allen or Patterson in the 1st or wait til the 2nd to get a guy like Hunter, Hopkins, Rogers, Patton or Woods we'll be in the same situation.

And even if Smitty got injured or retired we'd be far from the worst offense in the league. As long as we have Cam we're just about guaranteed to be above the bottom 11. He still has Olsen to throw too, as well as the other middle of the road WRs, plus at least Stewart and Tolbert to run screens and dump offs to.

What don't you get? The fact that the chance of a rookie WR making a significant impact is slim to none?

Ah yes the ol "rookie WRs never make an impact." myth despite the fact that this myth has been busted several times the past few days,

My favorite.

Apparently he thinks no WR can make an immediate impact because Julio Jone's didn't.

That statement is dumb on so many levels. He had 959 yards and 8 TD's in his rookie year. Thats as much TD'S as Steve Smith and Lafell had combined last year.

So Jones does prove a rookie like several have before can succeed and be an immediate impact.

Here's a mind blower for you. Keary Colbert had more TD's (5) in his rookie year than Smith or Lafell had last year. He also had more yards than Lafell has had in either of his first 2 seasons. Granted he steadily fell off over the next couple years but still he was a rookie receiver making an impact.

And gets even better when you consider Jake Delhomme was the QB, we had no run game because Davis and Foster got hurt forcing Nick Goings to become a starter at RB. Then our o-line was horrendous Right Tackle was held down by the worst starter in panthers history with Matt Willig(9 starts). our guards were a rookie Wharton,Tutan Reyes, Jeff Mitchell at center and a 2nd year Gross starting at LT for the first year playing on the left side rounded out our o-line.

Steve Smth was hurt all year in 04 so we had Moose and Rookie Colbert out there with Kris Mangum at TE,no running a game and a very bad offensive line. Jake Delhomme managed 3,886 yards and 29 TD's with only 15 picks. On top of all that Dan Henning was the offensive coordinator!

Aside from QB and LT, WR is probably the most important position on offense. These days you really need 2 of them and right now Smith is the 2nd oldest player on the team to Ron Edwards.

Lafell can immediately be penciled in as a solid # 3 which is good. However we need a TD scorer to help us get the most out of Smith in his final year(s) and be a future weapon for Cam.

This type of thing is often what we are fed as fans by reading reviews, scouting reports, mock drafts and watching highlight tapes. Truth is of those top 7 WR's I'd say half never live up to the hype as happens every year at different positions the deep was supposedly deep at. Only way to reduce that risk is to take the 1 or 2 who separate themselves from the pack.

    • Start with Bryce, this is like his rookie year. The 1st 2 games proved her was wired wrong and it looks like (we hope) he needed a time out to reset and be the player that was drafted. He's still about a year or more away from being a top 15 QB, if the Panther give him another playmaker or 2 (a top WR and a decent TE) and maintain that line. Canales deserves credit as playing that card correctly to motivate (or refocus) his QB for one last shot to decide his and the Panthers immediate future. As a Panther fans we should hope he keeps improving as we invested so much to get him. CJ Stroud will never have a season like he had, even if he stays a top 10 QB. He's got great character so I'm rooting for Bryce to continue on his positive journey. Canales is playing the week to week thing with bryce perfectly. Nothings guaranteed, earn it weekly which builds consistency and consistency is greatness.  Keep the O-line. They've got to extend Brady C, along with Mayes that have a real good 7. Great job Morgan starting with the big guys upfront.  I really hope they draft a DE or OLB in the 1st round. Getting Brown back with A Robinson and what DJ has shown that we can have a decent D-line. Need a CB in the early rounds/ or a time FA to go with Horn.  The future as to next year being good enough to challenge for the division is within reach. Just show progress (win or lose) every week. Kudos to Dan Morgan. Plays GM like a LB. Tackle the problem and move on, don't just hope it works out. Find guys with your playing mentality and work closely with your HC to share a vision. Teamwork starts at the top and flows down.
    • Since we play the Panthers today and tmrw, we will have one gigantic double thread for both games. Today’s game is at 3pm and tmrw is 7pm.    After beating the Rangers and sending the those yankee bastards back to Cary, we get the Champs in the house.  Clean up the defense, no more lazy clears, and score baby score.  LFG CANES!
