Rivera talks minority hiring and Cam Newton (Florio criticizes)

How ,much ammo has Cam given them and how much ammo has a misinformed sports media that live in an echo chamber, and can't get basic facts correct because it gets in the way of a good story?

There are two sides to the laptop story. Ultimately the charges were dropped after Cam did a program. But even that is not an admission of guilt. In order to save face these type of deals are often worked out, especially when the police feel they have no case, a weak case, or that it is a waste of their time to prosecute.

The cheating stuff at Florida is a story from a single anonymous source (most publications that are respectable want two separate sources before they will publish a story from anonymous sources), that was never corroborated by anyone as far as I have seen. .

The NCAA never proposed any allegations against Cam Newton and seem to agree that he had no idea any conversations even took place. Equally unclear is who initiated these conversations, the Newton camp or the people representing MSU.

The infamous "entertainer and icon" quote was taken out of context.

The problem is the sports media is like most people, lazy. And they have become reluctant to take on other media entities. Instead of further exploring other media stories, they choose to report on other journalist's reports rather than further investigate the report itself. And then they are in their own echo chamber which begins a media driven narrative that is often based on misinformation.

I don't think Cam gave them ammo as much as the media did a pooty job of doing their job, and were more interesting in attacking the NCAA for not punishing Cam and Auburn than they were getting the facts straight. And the general public were all to eager to go along with them.

"Last season there were 4 African-American HCs out of 32 positions, or 12.5%. African-Americans are 12.4% of the total US population.

Where’s the problem again?"

Liked that comment. Florio is a moron in absolutely every regard. I don't see how it's possible someone is so consistently stupid.

Cam isn't hated because of his race, I'm fairly certain. Cam is hated because so many people are jealous. The guy is a top high school QB, gets recruited to Florida during the Urban Meyers years, years a National Championship at Auburn in only one year there, gets drafted #1 overall, breaks all sorts of rookie records, breaks all sorts of two year records, huge sponsorship deals, etc.

The game, and everything with it, come so easy to Cam that it grates on peoples' nerves. His smile is so electric, people hate it. He goes back to school, people hate it. Cam is the one guy everyone wants to hate. It's not because of his race, it's because he just damn better than everyone.

While I do partly agree with that but I can't seem to name a white QB off my head that I think is hated just because. Players are normally hated for bad behaviors. I don't think cam has enough resume in the league that warrant hatred. The dude just completed his second season and was hated throughout. And don't give that 'once he makes the playoffs' excuse. Every year there are at least 18 white QBs that do not make the playoffs and I don't think the media is waiting for the moment to love them. Although your comment was well intended but you can't just oversimplify it. Too many excuses.

I think the majority white public find reasons to hate and chastise black players. They find every nonessential crap that happened 15 years ago when the player was 5 to hate on. One thing I do agree completely with you is jealousy is in the center of it all. Complete racial jealousy. Some of those black athletes, like Cam, are complete human freaks. Almost superhero-like. Thus people do try find reason to humanize them.

Look at Wilson, Kaepernick and RGIII. All not-white and loved by the media. Once Cam is in the playoffs, the media will love him too.

I don't think those guys are loved. The media just haven't found justifiable reasons to chastise them. The media also understands that if they attempt to chastise those guys it will raise eyebrow by the black community. Pretty much, the media try to only pick on one black guy at a time. When it comes to Cam they wanna be able to say "well RG3 is black, we're not picking on him so we're not racist. We only hate Cam because he put a towel over his head". I'm surprise the public hasn't petition the government for the death penalty for those who put towels on their head when their team is losing.

brian billick comes to mind when labeling "black quarterbacks" although he didnt use that phrase. He said something like, "who looks like Cam and has won a superbowl" or something of that nature. Not sure if he meant the color of his skin or the fact he is a 6'6" 250 lb monster.

That lips-less prick meant his skin color. It's the same as the statement "how many running QB ever won a superbowl?". White racists just use description instead of the actual term black. Here is another example, what do you think they mean when they say "team A needs more speed in the backfield" or "Notre Dame needs to recruit more speed to be able to compete with SEC teams"? In a more honest and less racist society they could have just say black players. Sorry to say, but white people have difficulty communicating or getting along with other races. Which is kind of sad.

But their employers are white. So they go with the flow. Towels are not that sacred to black people, I doubt they would care how someone use them. Lol

Cam was lucky he didn't blow his nose with that thing, he'd probably be in death row right now. whewww! That was close!
