Saw Silver Linings Playbook

Never got around to seeing that one. Just from the, what, 3 movies I've seen with her (?), she has still yet to impress me at the level some people are supposedly seeing.

Winter's Bone is probably her best flick, and it was up for best picture too I believe. That movie+Silver Linings Playbook puts her up there on top actresses right now. She just has to stay away from bad movies like House at the End of the Street. Hopefully an Oscar will help her do that.

Best directed/acted movie of the year.

We need to get used to movies in which characters show realistic emotion and aren't on the 27th take of a scene in which their movements need to be perfectly calculated. Minimalism/realism is the next big thing in movies because it will gel with the viewers.

totally agree. if you pay attention, you can tell with something was ad libbed or some improv was going on. i hate conversations in a film where a person doesn't repeat themselves or has some form of bad cadence.

movies where the conversations are perfect yet manufactured don't do it for me.

i like directors, and Russell is one of them, where improv is expected and you might get the script for your scenes early that am. you don't have time to over think it or put too much of yourself into it.

Just saw it. It was pretty good for what it was, but i enjoyed Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence.  If they had dug deeper about Bi-Polar it would have been a lot better, imo.  Cooper was pretty spot on, but it kind of just went down hill in the second half in quality for an Oscar nominated movie for me.  Overall though, I really enjoyed it.

Just rented this and checked it out last night.  AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME MOVIE!

Bradley Cooper's performance was one of the most amazing efforts I have ever seen in any movie.  There are a lot of overused cliches and words in movie critics' repertoires, but it is not an exaggeration in the least to say his performance was "gripping."

Really loved DeNiro's performance as well.  I will probably end up buying this movie too.

I watched the "making of" bonus on the blu-ray rental and they said that the scene where DeNiro goes to Cooper and tells him he's sorry for not showing him enough attention and that he blamed himself for Cooper's problems was all DeNiro as far as emotions go...  They said they didn't tell him to do anything, just let him go with his lines and he started tearing up himself - that wasn't in the script at all.

They said that it definitely helped that DeNiro and Cooper had previously worked together extensively on "Limitless" as well.  DeNiro committed to Silver Linings and when he read the script he advocated for Cooper to play Pat.  Cooper said that helped him feel comfortable and that DeNiro was like a security blanket for him because of that.

You can really see it throughout the movie.  Definitely a moving performance from both of them.

Going to have to disagree with you there. Not sure about the acting skills because I've only seen her in the Hunger Games (that I know of) and she did nothing for me at the time but she is my new "it" girl. I think she is stunningly beautiful and her personality from what I can tell in interviews puts her over the top. The girl is incredible.

You need to watch Winters Bone.  Great acting and great movie all around.
