Hurney, the worst contract negotiator of all time? Panthers in worse cap shape in 2014

Hang on, is the search button working? Seems like I remember a post or 2 saying Hurney was great with the cap.

people are still defending Hurney

lol

It is just amazing how people thought Hurney was doing a good job the last few years.

The day Hurney drafted Stewart with our #1 just 2 years from using our #1 on DWill he should have been fired.

Salary Cap incompetence featuring the Peppers debacle, draft day trades up for bad players other GMs passed on and horrible debilitating contracts are his legacy.

fug you Marty Hurney for ruining the Panthers.

Recovery aint gonna be pretty.

The offseason between 08 & 09 imo should have been his last straw and was the beginning of the end. That really screwed everything up.

After being right at the cusp of something special, we experienced the Jake implosion and he went full retard from cap management, re-signings, to the draft. Haha that draft....it was so freaking bad:

Everette Brown, Sherrard Martin, Corey Irvin, Mike Goodson, Tony Fiammetta, Duke Robinson, & Captain Munnerlynn to round out our top seeded playoff team.

We were so close minus a few parts and completely f*cked ourselves in the as$ thanks to Hurney. I still don't know what the hell we were thinking that offseason. Don't forget that Jake extension. Soo bad

all of this came down to allowing Fox the chance to fight his way out of a paper bag, and clearly Hurney was ready to go above and beyond to cater these needs.. all around fail. In hindsight, they both should have been fired.

I definitely agree. It was time for both of them to go. Fox was a great coach but he had run his course here.

I say fire Fox and Hurney immediately!!!!!!

Wait........What????

You say Fox has been gone almost 3 years and Hurney 5 months.

OH...... nevermind..........................

Actually my opinion is that the real culprit in the tight cap issues is that everyone was told the 2014 cap would go up 20-30 million due to the TV contract. Now it appears it will be flat again. So teams that negotiated contracts in 2010 like we did, planned on that. Teams that were able to wait until 2011 were told that things would be flat. The reason things are worse in 2014 than 2013 is because Hurney counted on what they were telling him. Did he overspend, yes...... But it wasn't as bad as some people make it out to be. If we have bad contracts like Beason and Williams then the overwhelming majority were good ones.
