I am all for keeping Deangelo another year if we can find a way to. Imo he is much more of a homerun threat than Stewart.

Deangelo has been more productive than Stewart since Rivera's arrival as well.

Heres combined rushing stats for both since 2011(Rivera's arriva).

4.72 yards per carry

Longest run 32 yards

5 Rushing TD's

635 yards after contact

1587 yards

4.83 yards per carry

Longest run 74 yards (he had at least a handful of others that beat Stewart's long of 32 as well)

Other team cant take on the sb's and so forth just base salary.

Also as I said in my other post its how its setup. His deal is high. Paid as a top 10 rb. His deal is pretty bad.

Thanks for the link, but even the writer seems to think that the contract is pretty good, all things considered.

Overall, $36.5 million with $23 million guaranteed is a good deal for a running back with just 13 career starts.

I guess it depends upon how you look at it. I believe in Stew, and I wholeheartedly believe that he can be a top 5 back in this league. That being said, he basically is on the lower end of the top 10 money, especially the guaranteed portion of the money with backs that are of his caliber. The fact that we got him at a relative value means that Williams' days are probably numbered (all things considered), unless he is willing to restructure. Moreover, it's time for Stew to start earning his paycheck, which will really prove that he is the beast at a bargain. You can't get a beast at basement prices, but we did about as good as we could, notwithstanding Williams' top 5 contract numbers.

I'd rather have Dlo than stewart. Stewart we could get decent value by trading due to his age and raw measurables. Tolbert could fill in as a makeshift stewart as well.

but do we want him to be our best runner is a separate question. I agree that I think Stew and Tolbert are more than adequate to handle the load, but as Cam career progresses I would like to see his running become more of a rarity than commonplace

This is just rushing yards, right? What about pass catching? You have to get the entire picture. But, even with the stats you presented, looking at Stew's age and contract, I'm taking Stew. I would love to keep Deangelo, but he would have to take a pay cut, and the money that some other needy team may be willing to pay him might be too good for him to pass up.

In 12 Stewart was targeted 22 times and had 157 yards receiving. In 11 he had 57 targets for 457 yards.

Combined thats 79 targets for 614 yards

In 12 Williams targetd 19 times for 187 yards receiving. In 11 he had 24 targets and 179 yards.

Combined thats 43 targets for 366 yards.

They both had 2 Recieving TD's a piece over the last 2 years.

Just think of how many more all-purpose yards Stew would have racked up if it hadn't been for the ankle. He is just a more complete and prototypical back in my opinion. D-Will still has something left in the tank though, so either someone is gonna get a helluva back, or we are going to get a hometown discount luxury option.

Well, that was a question to ask around the time we drafted Cam. We drafted him....that makes him the best and most dangerous part of our rush attack.

By the time it is realistic to start removing him as he ages away from that....Double Trouble won't be RBs in the NFL

I love DWill and hope we keep him but he's old and over paid.

Of course am hoping and trust the new GM makes the right decision. The cap situation does suck. That being said, from the outside looking in it does seam and appear to me the Deangelo makes more and has the most big play potential when he touches the ball more so than Stewart and the other RB's on the roster.

If you're trying to win now there is no way you boot DeAngelo. You don't eject your home run hitters before a run for a championship. I also don't think that they brought Jim Skipper back just to let DeAngelo go. I think this team is in win now mode and wanted Skipper back to help reignite their two star backs and help Shula with the run offense. Although some restructuring may be in order I doubt we've seen the last of Double Trouble.

Well, I think win now mode means.....the 2013, 2014, 2015 window.

Tolbert, Williams, Stewart trio don't need to be together in that window if we are serious about winning. Our cap situation is much worse in 2014 than 2013.

We need to start adding guys that play.....not watch from the sideline with our money.
