I know some of you guys do this... I'm looking for something that will work for me on a large river with significant current, swells, and chop... I fish the Hudson a lot...

I found a used WS Tarpon 120 which is fully outfitted (even comes with a fish finder) for 700... Seems like a good deal. Any recommendations?

It sounds like a good deal. Id look at the hull really carefully. Look for any deep scratches or places where the plastic looks melted. The melted areas could indicate a place where the boat was cracked and "welded" back together. They list new for 899 and the outfitter right down the street from me (in Greensboro) has a 13ft Tarpons in green and yellow for 675 that are demo boats. I know you cant run to NC to save a few bucks but my point is that for that price for the boat + extras Id be wary that the hull leaked.

Not trying to derail. But people fish the Hudson? I assume you go way upstream or do you drop in right there in lower Manhattan?

drop right in... there are launches and a good many people fish the river... lots of striped bass and because it's an estuary during the late summer months you get blues and other saltwater fish along with the usual population of bass, carp, eels, cats etc.

I'm just really tired of fishing off the shore.
