$5M is too much for a backup since Liuget-Thomas-Reyes is already going to be the starting unit. IIRC that move would put SD at around 15M under the cap. Garay was inactive the 2nd half of the season.

Other possible cuts for us would be Spikes, which would create 3M in space, Clary would save 2.3M. Gaither would only save us 500K unless he was a June 1, then it would be 3.5M with 3M in dead money next year.

He was highly-regarded a few years ago when the Falcons signed him coming from the Texans. But if I recall correctly, he's graded out as one of the worst corners in the league in the last two seasons by Pro Football Focus.
