When I tell people that I'd rather win the season series against the Yankees (and hopefully make them miss the playoffs) than have the Sox make the playoffs they think I'm crazy, but I don't care.

I'd take 14-2 with the two losses being to Green Bay and a trip deep in to the playoffs over 2-14 with wins over GB every single year.

I kind of think you had to be a fan of the Red Sox "back in the day" to get it. We kind of resigned ourselves to not going to the WS, or at least winning it, for a long time, and so winning the series against the Yanks became a goal because we hated them so much. And where I grew up we had just enough Yankee fans to rub it into.

Still don't like Penny....that was a pretty ugly 6 innings of shutout ball but it was good to see him make it that far. Sure didn't look like he'd be in the game very long when he his pitch count was soaring after only 2 innings.

Sabathia still sucks vs the Sox (though to be fair, his bullpen didn't help him out of a jam)
