i believe decriminalization hinges on the demotion of an offense from criminal to civil...

The fact that I can't go to jail for buying 1/4 oz. of weed in NC while in other states consider it a felony is why we are labeled decriminalized.

It's a very accommodating law actually. I'm guessing that 95% of pot smokers in NC buy less than .5 oz when they do.

I own my own business and can't afford to get a felony or spend time in jail.

"Eastern NC" to me means everything from Raleigh to about 5 miles from the coast. So yeah its a barren wasteland.

pretty much because once you hit the obx it's mostly people that are there seasonally, but in this area outside of Greenville the population is older on average then the rest of the state, there is a fair amount of population out here though, it was eastern Carolina that gave us the marriage admendment it failed in all the more populated areas but Eastern NC was what pushed it through.

All you have to do is look around America today. Look at 1990 where it was taboo and not even medicinally allowed, then to mid 90s where a few states were like, ok these laws are stupid, it's obviously a medicine and it became medicinal. Then in the early 2000s, instead of it blowing up in those few states' face like MJ doomsdayers believe, creating a bunch of crazy stoner addicts, over time 15 or so other states decided to do it medicinally, agreeing with the few that it was helping patients and is beneficial. Then, finally, two of these states realize just how benefical the plant can be legalized, to everyone not just patients, and are now legal.

It isn't a matter of if anymore, it's a matter of when and to me it's stupid to lock up people and give them records for something everyone will eventually be free to do. Pharm companies simply cannot charge poeple for things they can grow themselves. It's like a company who makes and charges you for your daily food, finding out you just learned how to grow/farm it yourself. They are going to fight it and they will fight dirty.

I think what sucks the most is the fact some advocates, maybe even most, have to keep their mouths shut to keep their jobs/buisnesses to support their families, otherwie it'd be legal a long long time ago. It's a shame really and I don't blame these poeple at all, they have to take care of their own but it explains why this process is so slow. Same with politicians, no one wants to advocate legalization (besides Ron Paul), in politics it's suicide to be the first. But states are becomming the first and you can't stop time, can't stop these politicians from aging and a new, more educated, logic/science based generation taking their places. At least we can all be happy we are moving in the right direction.

You can't get a felony for possessing 1/4 oz of weed. You can get a felony for purchasing 1/4 oz of weed. There's a difference.

Buying or selling weed in NC is a felony no matter the weight involved.

I'd also be 100% behind legalization, and I'd make sure that I get in line to vote.

Maybe (hopefully) the state will surprise you. At least one republican Christian has today, I'd say.
