Why the Panthers Do Not Draft A WR Early

Since when did the sure fire wide recievers last until the 14th? most of those go atleast top 10. we wont be able to afford a sure fire wide reciever in free agency for the next two years. by that time smitty will be 36. it takes any wide reciever two years to reach there true NFL form. thats why we need a WR now. if gamble is gone which i think he will be cb is the only position i want in the 1st unless Star or a great OT falls in our lap.

The same type of reasoning could be used for a DT. Unless you see a Ndamukong Suh, Vince Wilfork, Haloti Ngata at your draft position, what's the point of reaching for a DT in the first? Unless we trade up, Star Lotulelei is gonna be gone. For that matter, Kenny Vacarro will be gone at Safety, and Dee Milliner will be gone at CB. I am thinking that we will be taking the BPA in fitting with our needs, but like I said before, I am not worried either way. Rivera has proven that he can hit the mark, and Gettleman is supposed to be the master evaluator.

That would be a good reason if at the DT, or CB position we had the depth and talent we have at WR right now.

DT on the roster if we don't sign back both edwards boys or Neblett are.............

I'm sorry if I have more faith in what I see on the WR depth chart then DT and CB. All that can change if we can make some moves in FA. But right now it is what it is.

Could people on here please stop using Cam to make a point about a WR.

2 different Position 1st of all can not be compare for their impact on a team. Scouts are often wrong on QB going both ways. Example Clausen was the most pro ready. Gabbert was pro ready. They don't make as many mistakes on WR.

Cam was a National Championship winning QB who carried his team in his "1" year of big time college football.

Patterson did not carrie his team to anything. He only played because the other guys got hurt. And he doesn't run but 2-3 routes and has a lot of work to be done on his hands. He did more running out the back field then Joe adams. He had half as many rushes as he had rec.

Cam broke records for TD,- passing% and TD to TO ratio his 1 year.

Patterson stats are (in his 1 year of Big time college football) 46 rec. 778 yards 5td.

When was the last WR with those numbers drafted in the top 15???

How about doing some homework and show me a "WR" with 1year of College exp. that was as raw as Patterson is but made a impact in his rookie season. poo find me one that had impact in his 2nd year if you can.

Not in the 1st or 2nd round we don't with bigger problems on the roster. We don't have the Luxury to pick up another project at WR right now. If their was a Michael Floyd (who was picked 13th last year) maybe I'd agree with you.

We have enough projects at WR right now in my opinion and bigger needs on the team.

I am still not sold on a DT at 14. But I have always been leary of the DT high draft pick bust rates.

But, given the Giants history of taking DL high, it just might be in Gettleman's dna to do so.....I trust him.

I personally want an OL or DB in the first round.

I would love to have another weapon for Cam at WR, but am not sure there is any sure fire studs in this draft that are worthy of a top 14 pick. But, I admit that I have NOT done much research on the matter.

I think there are high odds of a worthy WR being there in the 2nd for us...

DL in the first, WR in the 2nd potentially.....all depends on a BPA not smacking us and it all being close.
