Jim Harbaugh Was Exposed

Looked like PI to me (past 5 yards and receiver in range of a catchable ball), dunno, dont care. While watching this with fans of both sides I had to say "You know what, after the billion fuggin blown calls the Panthers have had, I have no sympathy for you. . . none, too bad so sad. Deal with it. "

. . .and no I dont give a fug that it was the superbowl. Many of our blown calls likely kept us from the playoffs. They are absolute momentum killers.

My beef with Jim Harbaugh and his insufferable crew that runs around this board is well known, but I believe last night's game validated much of my opinions about his ability to coach.

Most of his proponents have conceded he is not schematically savvy, and have instead hung their worship on the premise that he prepares and motivates his team exceptionally well and that is why he is an elite coach.

Except he was woefully unprepared for the biggest game of his entire life. Not just unprepared, but he failed to properly utilize the myriad number of advantages in talent at his disposal, especially at the most crucial point in the entire game! Let me count the ways he showed his poor coaching:

1) On the 49ers opening drive, Terrell Suggs was positioned right outside the left tackle, reading Kaepernick's calls and audibles and relaying them to the other linebackers. The Ravens were fully aware of the run gaps to attack before the plays were even executed.

2) Penalties repeatedly gave the Ravens second chances and destroyed the 49ers momentum on the few pre-outage occasions they were able to gain any ground. This is a direct rebuke to preparedness and coaching.

3) The challenge of the first down call was ludicrous at that juncture of the game. Jim risked a timeout he would sorely need while down by 22 over a half yard on a second down call. Even though he won the challenge the ravens converted the third down anyways.

4) There is no point in running a read option if the quarterback does not keep the ball at some point. Kaepernick had one designed run the entire game, and it was one he audibled to. Against a linebacking corps that simply was not fast enough to chase Kaepernick, the 49ers refused to call designed plays for their best offensive weapon! The vast majority of the ground yardage he gained during the comeback was from scrambles!

5) The second half kickoff TD was a prime example of being completely unprepared, as the 49ers special teams assumed Jones would sit on a line drive kick and let him run it right up the middle for the touchdown. This is in spite of the longstanding adage that teams try to get a jolt from their opening second half plays in the Super Bowl (e.g. Sean Payton's onside kick.)

6) With time of the essence the 49ers still indulged Kaepernick's stupid habit of running the clock down and audibling to his second play almost every snap, directly resulting in them losing two precious timeouts. Say what you want about Kaepernick's physical skills but he has a lot to learn about running an offense.

7) Honestly, if the 49ers had been able to pull this game out it would have always carried an asterisk in my mind. They were given a full free hour to alter their gameplan by the mysteriously timed power outage. Let it be known that the 49ers gametime adjustments, such as they were, were gifted an extraordinary advantage.

8) Much of the "comeback" as it were was spearheaded by the Ravens as it was by anything the 49ers did. The Crabtree touchdown was caused by two Ravens defenders knocking each other off the tackle, Ray Rice coughed up a fumble that led to a field goal, and once Ngata went down the Ravens couldn't get the same pressure up the middle they needed to affect Kaepernick and hold down Gore's runs up the middle.

9) At the goal line, with the Super Bowl hanging in the balance, the 49ers called three pass plays to Michael Crabtree in a row. With one of the game's closest analogues to Cam newton available to them. And one of the game's best offensive lines. And a winded, slow and old Ravens linebacking corps that had been giving up chunks of yardage repeatedly to Kaepernick. Say what you want about Rivera but when we're at the goal line Cam Newton is going to score that touchdown every goddamn time, and Ron has no qualms with putting it in his best player's hands when the situation calls for it.

10) The 49ers were completely unprepared for the Ravens intentional safety call. Embarrassingly unprepared. And Jim Harbaugh showed his ignorance after the game by complaining about the lack of a holding call. . .which would have resulted in a safety. You don't blow a play dead because of a holding penalty, and the Ravens would have kicked off from the 20 no matter what, so screaming about no flag is entirely irrelevant. You were caught with your pants down, Jim.

Finally, Jim's lack of grace and infantile outbursts were in full display after the game.

His response to his brother telling him he loved him?

"Congratulations."

Regarding the correct no-call of holding on the last play (both players were involved in contact, and the ball was uncatchable, Mike Peirera agrees, and view this breakdown to be certain: http://imgur.com/a/SGoSi#0)

"I really want to handle this with class, but there is no question in my mind that there was a pass interference and a hold on Crabtree on the last one."

Which is it? Pass interference, or holding? And no, Jim, there wasn't. And why are you wanting the refs to bail you out for PASSING THREE TIMES IN A ROW WHEN YOU HAVE KAEPERNICK 5 YARDS FROM PAYDIRT?!?!?!

Now, before people break out the "he just lost the Super Bowl, cut him some slack" excuse, why not see how a great coach handles this kind of disappointment: http://www.steelers....be-a31b58965ddc

Finally, let me make something EXPLICITLY CLEAR to some of you: it's not Harbaugh that I really detest, it's those of you who constantly praise him and slam Rivera, Jerry Richardson, and the Panthers organization with zero insight into how our team has far fewer advantages than what Harbaugh has enjoyed to this point, and yet you idiots expect the same results. But I'm sure some of you Harbaugh lovers will spin his woeful unpreparedness, pathological lies, and jackassedness into some sort of glowing review anyways.

Well guess what: I'm right, you're wrong, and I'll see you all at the draft.

I think you are a really good poster FP but I think you are a little off base on this one.

I don't think he was "woefully unprepared" for this game. The 49ers only scored 6 points in the first half but they also only punted only once, on the first drive. Turnovers and the inability to get TDs in the redzone, (thus IMO the players on the field) killed them in the first half, not the coaching.

But I wanted to get to this point in particular:

4) There is no point in running a read option if the quarterback does not keep the ball at some point. Kaepernick had one designed run the entire game, and it was one he audibled to. Against a linebacking corps that simply was not fast enough to chase Kaepernick, the 49ers refused to call designed plays for their best offensive weapon! The vast majority of the ground yardage he gained during the comeback was from scrambles!

I think this is a big misconception of what the read option is by many on this board and what it is designed to do. The read option isn't designed so that the QB can run the ball. If the DE or outside LB want to take away the QB they can do it pretty easily by just staying outside and keep outside containment, then the QB has to give it to the RB. But when they do that they are taking a DE or LB out of the play to account for the QB giving the RB a free lane to the second line (assuming a DT or middle LB doesn't beat his blocker). So the point isn't to get the QB carries per se.

The point of the read option is that the QB is a threat to carry the ball, therefore the defense has to account for him, and thus they lose their numbers advantage on defense. It is really hard if the O-line wins their assignments for the RB not to get at least 5-7 yards if the defense is taking a DE or LB out of the play to defend the QB.

So it wasn't a matter of the read option and coaching that Kap didn't have more carries, the defense was staying with Kap forcing him to hand it off instead of keep it.

Ooh, your gobs of insightful research are so compelling. I guess George Siefert, Mike Ditka, and Mike Shanahan are brilliant coaches as well.

Well I could have written a whole page report on why he is a good coach to counter your essay about why it sucks that Harbaugh dumped you you think he is a bad coach, but its pretty silly when everyone knows he is a quality coach

I'm sorry, but one of the attributes most associated with Harbaugh is that he gets his players to execute well. You can't use that as an item of praise and then ignore it when they fail to execute.

That's only on runs towards the middle of the line, if they run the read option play to the outside the quarterback can easily keep it if a back chips the DE. We did it with Greg Olsen against Atlanta where Cam ran for 72 yards. They limited themselves to Kaepernick never keeping it because they only called one type of read option play.

Argh!!! I swear if you guys won't stop focusing on Harbaugh's entire body of incredibly successful work and start focusing on those few plays I cherry picked out of last nights game then I'll keep making utterly stupid threads until you get it! I'm right you're wrong brah!!

Please, please, please mods. For the love of God, ban me if i ever start making threads that humiliate me in this manner. This has got to be one of the worst posts I've read on here in quite some time. Entire concept of it is almost laughable, except it's not... It's just sad.

    • Here comes Frankw and his pathetic little persecution complex to claim I have a personal vendetta against one of the worst performing coaches in the league if anything I should love Canales because he’s walking proof that through the lord all things AREN'T possible.  This kind of performance is exactly what you’d expect from someone who filled the building with misunderstood Bible quotes about iron forging iron and inspired speeches about how he apologized for his infidelity by buying his wife a book deal.  once more into the breech dear friends, just like when I paid a stripper for an above the pants hand job in Orlando.
    • As dumb as it probably sounds, we should have won that game.  Defense was bad but Bryce should have been better.  Pass rush isn't a good enough excuse.
    • You and I both know there isn't a coach we could or can still hire that can "fix" Bryce Young. Even at mighty Alabama with one of the best modern coaches in college football history Mac Jones was still a better QB than Bryce Young. Mac Jones.... We already know how you feel about Canales on a personal level so in that regard you wanting him fired is not news. You don't have to disguise it behind this shroud of rabble about not fixing Bryce Young. To his credit he somehow had us competive against the Chiefs and the Eagles on the road with #9. But no coaching staff can overcome their starting QB turning the ball over 4 times. We definitely have developed some of our younger offensive pieces. And as far as Evero goes he has earned criticism and if he's fired so be it but in his defense many of us said in the offseason this defensive roster was a disaster waiting to happen given the resources we spent on the offense while neglecting the defense. That was Dan Morgan's plan. He swung too hard toward offense to salvage the Bryce Young trade. That's on him. We can scream about XL all we want but at least he's actually been on the field for the most part. The Brooks pick was a luxury pick at the time and now it is a Hurney level blunder. Dan Morgan has gotten a lot of early praise here when in reality he's unequivocally deserving of significant criticism. But if you say that some people get up in arms because he's a former Panther. Big whoop. He has just as much to prove this upcoming season as Canales. That's why to me in my own personal opinion I say one more season and then if it's more of the same say goodbye to both.
