After watching the Super Bowl, what position do we need to have most to win?

Both teams secondary looked terrible... Bmore's best Corner has been out most of the year, while there other 1st Rounder (Jimmy Smith) was benched... they have been playing with two relative unknowns in Graham and Williams. The 9ers were playing with some unknown and journeymen corners.

Neither had highly touted Corners.

The play of the Safeties wasn't all that good either.

With the way the league is going, moving towards passing-first with multiple receiver sets, high-drafted CBs are going to become less and less of value IMO. The reason I say that is because no matter how good the CB is, they can only cover for so long; their play is directly related to the pressure made up front. So if that isn't consistent, why spend a top pick on a CB rather than on a later round guy who can manage just as well? Norman, Thomas and Munn all did well (enough) as the season went on, when our pass rush was at our best.

So with all that said, a top-tier WR would go a long way. The more playmaking receivers you have on the field, the better the percentage will be that the offense will move the ball. All things aside, look at the teams who went to the Conference championships; they all have more than two receiving threats on the field. The panthers really only have 2 of them, those being Smitty and Olsen (LaFell is coming along, but probably won't quite get to the "playmaker" status).

Other then Crabtree what other San Fran WR had better numbers then Lafell??? Don't worry I'll wait.......

You might want to also know that we ended up with a higher ranked Offense then the Ravens. And that's with Chud having his Head up his ass half the year.

Neither one of these teams killed us in the passing games. Their running Game is what made them better then us. Both Team had really good Olines which we didn't have. It had nothing to do with their WR.

You're absolutely right... Haloti Ngata, Terrence Cody, Arthur Jones, Justin Smith, Ray McDonald and Isaac Sopoaga aren't strong at all...

I didn't say they weren't strong, but they definitely arent that impressive.

Dwan Edwards has way better stats than all of them with limited play.

How bout them Detroit lions? Suh and Fairley? How'd they do in the playoffs?

Yeah, DT's are where it's at...lolcats

You are right, no other single receiver put up numbers for the most part aside Crabtree... but they also didn't have to pass as much as the Panthers did with being in much closer games and/or coming from behind...

Are you kidding me, it had nothing to do with the Raven's receivers? Without their receivers, the Ravens would have lost in the opening round of the playoffs, especially against Denver... the Ravens stats on Rice are very deceiving because Rice didn't run the ball very well throughout the entire season; he had 8 games with under 70 yards (several games under 50)... as for the Ravens O-Line, it wasn't until McKinney was put in at LT and Oher over to RT that they really started gelling together and playing well (coincidently at the start of the playoffs)... Flacco got hit and/or sacked alot this season (compared to the last 4)...

As for ranking, where do they get you? What do they actually reflect other than numbers? We ended up with good numbers for a below average record... 9ers and Ravens were in the SB with lowering rankings... they mean nothing if you can't win games

The ravens and niners don't have very strong DT's by any means. - OP

DT's are a very important part of being a contender. The D Line in general. We have Big Money, Kraken, Frank and Applesauce. Now with the addition of Mario Addison I'm very confident with our DE's. However I don't feel the same about our DT's. I like Kearse & Dwan. A playmaking DT would do wonders for our defense. When Justin Smith was not in the rotation Aldon Smith had 0 sacks. fuging 0. You seem to be underestimating how important the big fellas are.

Dwan Edwards is living proof that you can find solid defensive tackle talent in free agency.

My whole point is what position are we missing right now to get to the Super Bowl, and I feel like drafting a number one corner or a number one receiver is more important than drafting some DT with potential.

And to koolkat;

Dwan will be a panther next season, book it.

They had comparable stats to our WR in the regular season. And the only major difference is Both teams had better OLines, Better Running, and Better defense. This is my point their WR aren't that much better then our's. What took them over us is better Play calling, Better Oline and Better defense not WR talent.

LMFAO. Youre telling me Dwan is better than Ngata, Justin Smith, Cody etc bc he had better stats?

Ngata does more for that team than what Dwan does for us. Ngata and Smith are both DEs in a 34 D. Their stats (sacks) isn't going to WOW YOU!

Suh and Fairley didn't do crap in the playoffs bc Brees picked that weak secondary apart like how I picked apart your mom.

I keep hearing Justin Smith and Ngata mentioned but there are no DTs in this draft on their level. When you talk about those guys not being in the game thats just a testament too how good they are. It isnt a DT in this draft thats gonna give us the same edge. Our strength is in our DEs on the line and getting all of them on the field.

    • At this rate, maybe he'll be a decent 8-9 QB on his 3rd HC by year 6. Standards are so low around here now. Tepper has done some serious damage to the fan base.
