The non-call on 4th down

Mr. Scot

On the 49ers last drive when it was 3rd down did any of you see the helmet to helmet it on the 3rd down pass attempt? That should have been a flag also, the crown of the helmet clearly made contact with the WR chin. That should have been an automatic 1st down, half the distant to the goal.

if they threw the flag the clock would have stopped and the 9ers would have had time for a return + a hail mary. doesn't matter if the ravens were smart, the refs should have called that.

On defensive holding the refs don't stop the clock automatically. The play would have continued until the kicker ran out of bounds. The result would have been exactly the same. There was no advantage to calling the holding or not so this was a non-issue.

Yes Smith held Crabtree and Crabtree pass interfered Smith. If they had

called the one a penalty they should have called the other and the penalties offset. At best it would have been 4th down again. This was no worse than the mugging the defensive back for Dallas committed to rob us of a first down on first down. No calls like that are the norm not unusual.
