i think williams is going to surprise...or better yet, disappoint quite a few fans when it comes time to talk money.

i could be wrong, but hasn't williams already turned down negotiation talks to extend his contract?

God, I hope u are wrong.......Williams is the next Sanders

I wonder if he has another good year and both Goodson and Stewart look good as well if the panthers would not be willing to trade him. If you let peppers go and still don't have a first round pick maybe.

Maybe someone would be willing to give up their first round pick and a solid reciever or DT and maybe a late pick as well. If someone was that desperate for him maybe the front office would want to think about it.

I would think we would have known about it. It couldn't have been too long ago. We have searched for a franchise RB since our inception. I don't see us letting him get away. He has a stellar line, a perfect tandem partner to extend his career and a great front office. He will resign.

I can imagine he might be a little miffed about the Foster thing but he will get over that soon and realize he has it pretty damn good in Carolina.

I'd love to have both Deangelo and Stewart for the rest of their careers but I doubt it happens. They are both primary backs similar to the LT/Turner situation. Hopefully we handle it better than the Chargers did...

What would you have done differently if you were AJ Smith?

Panthers Unlikely To Extend RB DeAngelo Williams?

Don't look for the Panthers to tinker with the final two years on DeAngelo Williams' contract, even after his 1,515-yard, 20-touchdown performance this season as it appears both sides are content to move forward under the current deal, which expires after the 2010 season. Williams has the chance to earn up to $2.5 million in escalators in the final year of the deal. His base salary for next season is $645,000, with at least $835,000 in incentives.

i tried searching thru the charlotte observer, but either i'm an idiot or their search only goes back so far.

Can't believe some commenter on that blog site said that it looks like the Panthers want to go with Stewart after Williams contract runs out, like he knows what they are thinking. Sure, Stewart is a bear and I love the guy. But to suggest we would let Williams walk after his contract is insane. Stewart is a prototypical John Fox running back for sure but he's having injury problems. Why would we want to go away from the two headed monster we have now again? The only way would be money, that's all that could screw the pooch...

Will Witherspoon says hi!

I'm afraid that if he holds out, the front office will be satisfied with Stewart.

Yeah, maybe youre right. There was the Mushin, and a Marlon Mcree things too. Chicago overpaid for Mushin, but we should have signed Marlon Mcree/Witherspoon. However they did do Steve Smith's contract early and attempted to do both Julius Peppers, and Gross contract early(results were somewhat less than ideal on those). They also did Jakes early, but I don't want to fire up the Jake Haters/Lovers. I think it really depends on how awesome Stewart/Goodsen end up playing. This is a 2 back league now, so I doubt we will let him go unless we have a really good second/third back.

Paying a top 15 HB, with another massive HB contract (Dwill's 2nd one) on the same team is certain death. IMO

Wanna pay big bucks to some of the same position players, lets talk DL, and OL.

We will give him a large contract and he will be happy with it.

He's almost TOO generous right now, for the impact he's had on this team he's being paid peanuts.

It kind of worked out that way with gamble too.

You do realize that he has only started one year for the Panthers, right?

I would be curious to see what his $ per carry have been for the Panthers, and see if that is what you called peanuts.
