Starting Insanity Next Week

Anyone have experience with this workout routine?

Throughout high school and college I routinely lifted weights and did some cardio...mostly training for my soccer and lacrosse seasons.

It has now been over a year since I have done any consistent workouts and I'm ready to cut down and get lean once again. I'm currently 5'11 180lbs and a mesomorph thats wanting to get under 10% body fat. I know insanity will get me the results I want in 60 days. After I'm cut and lean I plan on getting back to lifting heavy and putting on mass.

Anyways, when I would lift intensely 5-6 days a week I'd always load up on both whey and casein proteins coupled with a multi vitamin and amino acids. Should I stick to this regimen while dong Insanity? I'm not really overweight so I worry that if I don't consume enough proteins I'll start burning away muscle and just look skinny with no muscle mass after Insanity.

As far as diet, I plan on just being conscientious of my caloric intake and drinking lots of water but I don't want to count calories and map out an entire diet. I'll stick with lean meats and vegetables and try to avoid sugars.

Any advice as far as Insanity itself goes? Advice on supplementation during the process?

That thread is too long now.

If you're worried about not getting enough protein, look at your diet before you look at supplements. Remember, you only waste your money when you try to supplement a shitty diet.

As far as insanity, it comes with a pretty good nutrition guide. You don't really need to follow it to a T, but it does steer you in the right direction.

The Insanity workouts are kinda quick and fast paced (during the first month, I believe every workout is under 40 minutes - including warm ups, stretching, the workout, cool down, and breaks) During the second month, the intensity picks up.

You will drop weight. But if you want to get below 10% body fat you'll have to make lifestyle changes. Insanity alone won't do it.

Yup. Accurate statement.

Don't be like my two room mates who read an "article" or get "advice" from a GNC employee on why they need to spend $140 on supplements.

Eat correctly, cut out the BS carbs and empty calories (yes that means beer) and maybe do a protein shake a couple times a week.

Also, one thing I've learned/noticed about lifting weights is don't neglect your legs and lower torso.

How is it too long? Is that even a thing? It's got tons of posts from people doing Insanity and P90X...

This... it's funny... Gold's here in Wilmington has allowed UNCW students to have access to their gyms while the UNCW gym is being renovated... besides the fact that it's a giant pain in all us paying customers asses... watching all these young guys workout is comedy gold. Everyday is chest and bicep day, with twice as much weight as they need and zero form. I was dumb when I was young too, but damn... I must have had decent coaches in high school because even then I knew you don't do that.

It's too long because you'll see someone ask about a particular workout, then won't see an answer for six pages.

Young guys working solely their "mirror muscles" always crack me up. one of my old workout partners used to crack on me because we had to drop weight for my sets. After a few weeks of doing his routine, I talked him into doing mine. He lasted about 45 minutes. I just found it strange that he could bench more than he could squat. How is that even possible?

Searchy, searchy?

Yeah, a lot of people are like that apparently... wouldn't know a squat rack if it fell on them.

I guess it's just the whole "beach muscle" thing... plus leg and ab workouts suck. I don't like them, but they are necessary.

I kinda enjoy ab workouts. Abdominal muscles are small and usually recover quickly. But a good oblique workout can leave you pretty bad off.

Insanity has some ab exercises I've never tried before. Best of all, there's no sit-ups or crunches in the routine. Gotta work your abs - they support your back.

Good luck with Inanity. I did it for 50 days. Was 85% faithful to sticking to the schedule. Felt the results quickly.

Looked like a total dork while doing it though. For the 1st while, I would hit a wall at the 12 minute mark. Every time. Laying on the floor, with drool coming out of my mouth. That was I decided it was a good workout.

    • Kraven has awful shitty comic book movie vibes all over it. It's just more of whatever studio owns the rights to the Spiderman set, but no longer actually has Spiderman anymore. Wicked is probably no more enjoyable. 3 hour long musicals are tough to endure.
    • One of those guys who throws a pass that makes you yell "OMG" then immediately follows it with one that makes you go "WTF" 😳 Essentially the Brett Favre prototype...
    • The Giants games are an interesting comparison for sure. We could compare the Chiefs vs the Bucs as well, since at least both teams are largely the same as they are now, rather than the Giants whose coach lost his mind after losing to us. 30-24 KC in overtime. Hunt had 106 yards and Mahomes had 291. Baker threw for 200 yards, but 2 TDs. Their leading rusher had 25 yards or something. Our offense outperformed what the Bucs did vs KC, but being a division game we won't have the benefit of being overlooked. If our D plays how it did in the 4th quarter I think we can get some stops.  Can Bryce carry a second game? I'd rather not find out and have Chuba carry the load, but we'll see.
